2014 goals (outlandish goals encouraged)

cdr, if you show up next season in form, i'll do whatever i can to help you win those races. would love to see a little more cohesion with our 3 squad, which is pretty strong in crits. i'll be back in new england in may.
nope, never won. have a couple 2nd place finishes. i struggle with staying focused while at school. i get my workouts in, but diet/sleep/recovery has been lacking.

My goal races are races I know I can do well at but that I've never won. Seconds, yes, but no wins. I know Ninigret is one of the courses I can do if the race stays together. Kermis... for sure I can do that race. New Britain, ditto, it's as close to a Bethel as I can get to. New London, for me, would be the absolute schnizzle if they can hold it next year. Limerock, also, that hill wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, it was like a 10 meter longer Bethel.
I hope that in 2014 I'll be in close to 2010 form. Prior to 2010 I was still heavy - 183 when I started officially dieting Oct 12th. It's not even Oct 12th and I'm 15 lbs lighter than that. I just need to keep up the work. The other thing is that in 2009-2010 I did two training camps - a week in FL and 2 weeks in SoCal. I've already booked an 8 day trip to FL. I hope to do a massive block in Jan (Feb I typically end up riding little due to Bethel and other stuff, last year it was 4 rides mainly due to illness).
The thing is that if we have another kid it'll need to be soon so to me 2014 is like my 2010 all over again, my last year of racing hard for a spell. We haven't decided on when for the second kid but we see it happening in a year or two. I hope that even if/when we have another kid that I'll be able to maintain my weight a bit better and therefore return to racing shape quicker. Prior to 2010 I was typically 200 lbs in the winter.
On school - my GPA dropped 0.5 points each spring. I wasn't focusing much on school and it showed. Bike racing can wait a bit and it doesn't cost as much as schooling does.
For your racing I think you can read moves, you commit hard. It's the finishing off bit that is your weak point but I don't know how to address that.

Sounds like a plan!
I think I lost a bit of confidence racing in a new scene this year, and generally as a 2 - in WA as a 3 I wasn't afraid to use my elbows when needed and generally aggressively. I knew everyone and they knew me. As a relatively new 2 in new state, I sometimes forgot I wasn't a cat 3 riding in someone else's race - that it's my race now too. So next year I plan on being way more aggressive, that's for sure.
Also I'll have team mates next year, so that should help a ton.
Only problem is that Bahati will be there and have team mates.. and his team mates are really strong too. Talk about a tall order. But the guy that won San Rafael last year was probably not expected to, so it can happen!
However realistically I need to win something going into it, I don't think I'll pull that one out of my ass.

the point, is that for 180 I can climb well. Remove the road grade and apply near the same power to the flats and it should work even better, assuming I can get halfway into a decent position.
Not everything needs to be a critique. I use w/kg because when you say 400w for 50min people forget or don't know that I'm 180lbs and it's not out-of-this-world #s , just 4.x like everyone else. But mass tends to scale in 3 dimensions with height whereas cda scales on a more forgiving curve for height.

One of my big goals is to also not crash haha, but I am going to be a quite bit more aggressive next season.

E-wang is just that, e-wang it's the application of that power that is important. 400 watts for 50 minutes straight would be sweet, but based on what was posted that was a cumulative 50 minutes.

When I was racing last year I weighed 181 and at that weight, as I have said before, I can climb with most (my training partner was a 6'1" climber that weighed in the 150's) I just can't attack them.

Can someone point me in the right direction in how to get into racing? What do the different categories mean? I couldn't find any specific threads on this information.

You can get a license here: https://www.usacycling.org/buy-a-license.htm
You can also just do a cheaper one-day license in Cat 5 to see if you like it, without having to pay for the annual license.
