I ride on my hoods a lot, but i have a very long and low position, so it's similar to many people's position in the drops. I never have any problem cornering or braking on my hoods. I sprint in my drops, and do hard efforts in my drops, but sitting in the pack i relax and stretch out on my hoods, or even in a long break ill sit on my hoods a lot, and pull in the drops. Never had any issues.

    drops? hoods? tops?

amateurs. I do most of my riding with my hands behind my back, like a speedskater.

Once you get out here to SoCal riding in the drops are going to help a lot. The Santa Ana winds in some places are brutal.

Crap. A sign of age is when stuff you remember clearly is not even in Google.

You should probably downgrade to cat 4. Maybe 6.

2014 began in the fall of 2012, when I received my orders to deploy to Afghanistan.

I did switch from 44cm to 42cm bars in 2010 which I really have come to prefer and they roll my shoulders in a little.

My drop looks pretty similar. I'm sticking with 44cm bars though, b/c of shoulder issues.

I ride with the same mantra as creatre and commute year round to get my miles. You will find as it gets colder that the light battery life REALLY drains. My commute is close to 2hrs give or take. Get rechargeable lights for both front and rear. Last year I ran a Serfas 600lumen white light for the front and the top of the line serfas rear red light(forget model names). The rear light works great for 2hrs+ sub 30degree but the front light was not quite enough. This year I will be adding another front light that can probably hit 1000 lumens in addition to my Serfas front light.

I recharge the lights at work.

    There's my girl.....

If someone has a set of 40cm Shimano Vibe 7S I'll trade you a set of 44cm. I find that the narrower just seem to help my shoulder feel better.

I still have them though I find the 7S are considerably stiffer than rounds. Any suggestions?

huge fan of the vibe series bar. i like their take on the round shape, and i find them to be stiffer than 3T offerings i've used. they are somewhat unique in that the 31.8 diameter section is not just at the clamp but extends nearly to the hoods.

i won't approve of them in white, though. (see echapp's link.) ;-)

they're not the lightest bars out there.

i'm also fond of the zipp vuka sprint bars.
