Your race announcer should sound something like this...
There are some good announcers working the circuit these days, but the gold standard is still Jeff Roake who has suffered two strokes and is no longer able to announce races.
In his prime, he sounded like this.
Also note that that's a Huber Flyer that I describe in a recent book. He would attack at the bell, and no one could catch him. Great move if you're not blessed with a sprint.
By the way, he was in the drops.

There's a crit in Seattle (Joe Matava) that has a comical announcer - old and slow.
He reminds me of Judd from Pet Cemetary.. in fact I think it's him!

And I have to agree that was some awesome announcing.
YMCA is pretty good even though he announced me in my worst race ever. Gawd, that was a terrible day. Pulled myself after one lap in a crit. I suck, but normally not anywhere near that badly.

Dave Towle got his start as far as I know in Boulder. He used to call ourn midweek short track races..."hurricane o' pain" etc etc. certainly he was a better announcer than I was a racer. Fun to hear your name. Good guy, too.

For maximum exposure, it behooves people to be known by the announcer.
I can call many riders from 200 meters away, because I've known them and their styles on a bike for years. But the majority of categories have me glancing at my laptop quickly to see who #546 was.
It's not easy to remember thousands of different names over a single season.
Again, the more I see you, or the more I call you, the easier it becomes.
Also helps if you stand out in a crowd. Certain position on the bike, long hair, tattooed from head to toe, gawdy kit, solo breakaways, the winner, etc...

Had a guy here in Michigan in the 90s who would sprint like the devil to be the first rider across the line on the first lap just so his wife would hear his name called out. Then we'd never see him again.
And he'd come up to the stage halfway through the race (dressed in steer clothes because he had dropped out by that point) to yell at me if, for some reason, I didn't say his name.
And he'd come up to the stage halfway through the race (dressed in steer clothes because he had dropped out by that point) to yell at me if, for some reason, I didn't say his name.
