out walking the earth
A farmer had only one horse. One day, his horse ran away.
His neighbors said, “I'm so sorry. This is such bad news. You must be so upset.”
The man just said, “We'll see.”
A few days later, his horse came back with twenty wild horses following. The man and his son corraled all 21 horses.
His neighbors said, “Congratulations! This is such good news. You must be so happy!”
The man just said, “We'll see.”
One of the wild horses kicked the man's only son, breaking both his legs.
His neighbors said, “I'm so sorry. This is such bad news. You must be so upset.”
The man just said, “We'll see.”
The country went to war, and every able-bodied young man was drafted to fight. The war was terrible and killed every young man, but the farmer's son was spared, since his broken legs prevented him from being drafted.

Tour de Millersburg Road Race
Cat 3: 27/70
9th overall in GC
Well finished up the race with 56 miles of rolling roads. I entered the day tied for 5th in the GC. I tried 4 times to get away and all were unsuccessful and closed down fairly quickly. The race was just to easy so when a break went it didn't take long for the peloton to pick up the pace and real them in. My best opportunity came at the top of the climb. Everyone would slow down to catch their breath. There were 4 guys up the road and I went just before the top of the climb. Got a gap and bridged to the leaders, but even though we were willing to work together it was short lived. I was leading down the hill before the second to last turn and everyone stomped on it and i got swarmed and backed off. I wanted to make it home. Just didn't trust going into that turn. Something I need to work on. 9th in the GC...I'll take that

SRS knoxville RR: DNF
So i didn't wreck but...
Pouring rain with somewhat technical decents. Rain was so bad that pools of water had formed at the bottom of the decents.
Anyway, 2 guys went OTF right before the rain came pouring down(smart move) and I was sitting 3rd wheel as we upped the pace. Took a slight right downhill, nothing crazy that would need braking but we were going about 32mph. since it was downhill, we had a natural gap of about 4 feet. In the turn, I closed the gap of 4ft CRAZY fast in the turn and was on the inside. Not sure why the guy in front of me was going slower but this is not the first time that I have flown past people decending. Anyway, I had about an inch before I hit his wheel or ran off the road so i grabbed some brakes. Teammate said that my back wheel skidded and then my front but I was able to veer and brake in such a way that I stayed upright. 3 other guys went down but I think they are all ok...Is that on me or them?
Anyway, the rain plus that almost near death experience and I just pulled out of the race early...sucks as I felt great. Anyone else get this kind of experience? what could I have done different?

they really ought to move the finish line up a bit as the race is otherwise a mass sprint

short 1/2 mile oval...like nascar short track in a 'downtown' section of a small town
weather...fine
Cat 3
pack/field of 30
Not feeling the early race/warm up sub standard. felt horrible through out. mid race wanted to attack, did so. looked back and everyone was right there....that was was a sad attack. i really didnt have it. My strong teammate flatted with 8 to go. He got his wheel right before the pit closed, but was now way at the back. with 4 to go I used what little I had left to drag him to the front. I tried to stay up there, but couldnt fend off attacks.
My teammate won the race out of the sprint, so that was cool. He split the winnings with me and gave me an extra large/extra thick Velo-promo t-shirt. I bought a pumpkin Its-It ice cream sandwich at the Its-It outlet down the street with my 'prize money'. https://www.itsiticecream.com/ (pumpkin is amazing)
Also I saw Fudgy flagging the course as a marshall. He looked.....alive. congrats on yesterday

i finished/30
A disturbingly high current|former|state/national champion to packfill ratio for this little race. first 20 minutes was me sprinting out of every corner stuck at the end of the whip. The last 20 minutes, after inevitable national champion-filled breakaway formed, was me paying for the first 20 minutes and the previous race. I let go with 1/2 a lap to go. I doubt it would have been much different if i hadnt done the first race. The gap in ability between the guys at the front and me is amazing.

Suisun Harbor Crit p12
Lined up with tired legs from yesterday, for a short-course crit that doesn't suit my somewhat uh, delayed, accelerating abilities knowing that we had both the u23 crit champion and the nats elite crit champion in the field.
First 25 minutes were brutal, 27+ mph average and my power curve (smoothed to like 10s) looked like this. I sucked at the corners, my legs _hurt_ from yesterday, and I couldn't get off the back. yo-yo doesn't describe it. More like one of those paddle-ball toys where I was just getting hammered out of every corner.
Eventually I started to figure it out. About halfway through the 70min I made it to the front and took a few-lap flyer. Nobody joined me which meant I just burned a few minutes of effort for nada.
There was a split at some point (I really wasn't aware of it) and I was on the right side of it. As the lap #s came out some attacks went and the pace was ridiculous. Over 28mph for a few laps. With 2 laps to go I was in a good position, about 5th wheel when a Marc Pro Strava rider jumped. I jumped with him but he out-accelerated me and had about 2 bike lengths. I never closed it. I was 2 lengths behind him for a lap and going into the bell lap I was re-absorbed. MPS Rider won the race, I finished at the rear of the bunch. I think Holloway was 3rd, and Laberge didn't make the split.
woulda: been 2nd if I didn't spend 20 minutes in the washing machine at the start
coulda: started racing crits years ago so I wouldn't need 20 laps to get the corners figured out
shoulda: pedaled harder.
I saw Hack and Save10 when I was marshalling. I saw MattM when he returned my shorts he destroyed by crashing like a quitter.

save10 i marshaled turn 4 during the old-guys 1/2/3's race, it definitely looked exciting.
then watched fudgy be the most awesome rider in our 1/2's squad, making the split and almost getting on that podium. impressive racing in a stacked field!
also the gf is impressed with your tan legs - we're both jealous.

must have been a teammate of mine that you saw as I was on the couch, like all day.
was matt chat the winner for MPS? heard he was going in feeling good today.
edit: we had a squadra guy in the E3 field that I kept thinking was fudgy. tall lanky guy on a team issue foil with about 10-feet of seatpost.
double edit: well done at Suisun, btw. its a simple course, but I like it.

San Marcos Criterium
Cat 5 35+
8th out of 16
35 minute race, 1.3 miles loop with a 6% climb of 55 feet. The race was basically, climb, descend, recover, repeat. I haven't done a race like this, and when I saw the amount of entrants, I knew it was going to be brutal. 16 people means less wheels to follow, and a bigger dependency on individuals to keep the race together. Regardless, I've had just enough improvement over the year to feel I had a chance, if I raced smart.
The first 25 minutes went pretty easy; I tried to stay behind wheels, but on the hill its hard to find a matched effort. Every loop the hill took a little bit out of the pack, until with about 10 minutes to go five guys formed a gap on the hill. I was near the back, and didn't notice it until it was too late. At that point I knew it was over, but stayed on the wheels of the two guys in front of me hoping one of them could close. We chased hard, and during the descent, the guy in front of me went over the center line. In doing so he hit a traffic cone, popping up and coming inches from my front wheel. (After the race another racer demanded the guy get dq'ed)
With 3 laps to go, the group I was with was gassed. I pulled for a lap, then went solo, but was caught by two guys with one to go.
As we crested with about 300m to go in the race, I dug in and went for a pass on the inside. I had about 5 feet between the rider and the curb but the guy saw it and blocked me just as I started my pass, forcing me to hit the brakes. That put the wind out of my sail, and was difference between 6th and 8th.
I'm not happy about it but it was a good effort. This marks a year since I got back on the bike after my surgery. 6,000 miles later I've earned the right to complain, and tomorrow I'll forget about it and focus on next week's race.

9th in the GC...I'll take that
well done SUL!
chappy, the finish line is in the middle of town. where would they move it to?
granted, I've only done the P12, but i've never done that rr when it wasnt won from a breakaway and that includes before it had the KOM/QOM climb.

P12 was won from a breakaway this year. Apparently a couple guys went from the beginning and my friend said they had 2 minute advantage in no time. I think the finish is in a good spot, but for some reason the peloton didn't want to let anyone go. Either that or I just got in breaks that didn't have strong enough guys.

What is with the guy in the green kit at the 1 minute mark going down the hill and then leading the pack for the last minute at insane speeds of 35mph on flat ground? He has too much strength and not enough brains. With 10 seconds left he was gassed. Should have sat in and then sprinted for the win if he had that much energy for a minute effort at those speeds.

You can't win if you don't try.
