On the other hand my understanding is that if I (as a promoter) let someone into a race that's not supposed to be there then I forfeit my insurance for the whole day.
I tell riders that want to "just do a few laps with the group" that if they want to put $1mil in escrow for 10 years then I'm okay with it. If they can't ante up they can't ride with the group, even for "just a few laps".
I think I cover my butt and say $5mil. But you get the point.

One of my collegiate teammates made the trip up to GMSR as a 2, he apparently got 2nd in the crit today after lapping the main field and secured the sprint jersey (8th or 9th overall). Sounds like a very tough event but I'm dying to go with him next year. I love that part of the country, but I know I'd get crushed to pieces on some of those climbs.
Overall the race was great but as a quick race report:
Stage 1 (TT): 7th, really windy this year, everyone's times were about ~30s slower, except for mine which was just on par with last year's at 10 less watts (I have worked on my aeroness, got an Evade and used some deeper wheels)
Stage 2 (Circuit): 11th(?) At this point I was the appointed GC guy so my duties involved sucking on wheels. My teammates slayed themselves this day, either reeling in breaks or more often then not getting into breaks to force others to chase. I made one dig at the end of the race in an attempt to get away but the yellow jersey had all of us top 10 guys marked and he quickly decided to reel me back in. The funny part was he let two other guys away who aren't the best TTers but are decent GC riders, they were outside of the top 10 after Stage 1 so it was sort of funny to watch those two ride off for a win. I participated in some sort of strung out field sprint and nabbed 5th in the field something in the top 20 overall, teammate had chased the other two and got 5th for the stage.
Stage 3 (Road Race): 1st, This is where I won last year and really didn't think it would happen again especially with a new (old) course with middlebury gap that added 1200 ft from last year. In the first 5 miles attacks started to fly and I noticed one particularly big (~15) split go up the road that contained one of my teammates, three GC guys, two guys from another team (who are both HUGE motors) and the green Jersey. I immediately launched and caught them before they got out of sight
Despite the big group we actually worked REALLY well together. We hade it up to Middlebury gap and at that point it was a real 'wheat from the chaff' moment, group immediately pared down to about 9 guys. Through the next 55 miles we continued to work well together with three guys fighting for KOM points (I decided not to try and get that jersey this year and save it for App Gap).
Our time gap kept going up aswell (1:30 -> 2:15 -> 3:30 -> 5:00 -> 10:00 (Probably not true, Moto ref told us he had very little info)).
I made my move at the second time at the top of Baby gap. I saw a gap on my wheel after the KOM point and put my head down and attacked down the hill. I hit Baby gap with approximately 100 yards between me and two chasers, started to climb, was told they were 30 secs back by the ref once on the way up, crossed the line and waited another ~2 minutes for them to cross. Stage win and GC in one fell swoop.
Stage 4 (Crit): (~40th?) Well atleast this time I didn't miss my clip in, got to the front then lost places due to my lack of aggressive crit skills. Former Yellow jersey signaled for me to go with him but I wasn't going to risk crashing during my way through the field so I let him go. Sat it while he and the green plus one other lapped the field (He lapped us preciesly when we got the bell lap.). Moved him up to 2nd in GC which I was happy to see since it didn't bump any of my teammates and he deserved it (Plus I want him to upgrade to the damn 1s, dude is scary strong, but super nice)
It was pretty sweet racing with an awesome team this year.

Nice report! The best part of all of this is that Evan (my teammate/the green jersey winner) brought me back a 4 pack of Heady Topper, which is a notoriously epic beer that you can only get in VT. Evan is sort of the yardstick in our area for racers, he lapped a few collegiate A fields this past year, had plenty of top 3s in big 1/2/3 fields, and was leading the collegiate national championship crit race until he flatted and wrecked. The idea of even hanging on to his wheel, much less beating him by several minutes baffles me, so clearly you had a great weekend. Congrats.

Haha, thanks man. Yeah I am good at doing those: "Oh he isn't going to last, let him go" moves I have learned. I don't always survive but when I do
I get more recognition for getting 4th in that video of the Michael Schott (I think that was the one....) Memorial crit from last year that you posted. It is funny how many friends have commented on that. Your video of me getting 4th in a race has earned me more recognition then my GMSR results

He (or rather, his dad) wants the best. I'm not surprised. 5 national titles I think, so it's working.

Fremont Peak HillClimb, p12. 2nd/6
Raced combined fields, p12, m35, and e3. 3rd overall 2nd in p12 of probably 20 guys.
10 miles, 2500ft of elevation, a large portion of it in the final 5 miles. I figured time to be around 40min, but we went out so slow and it was so flat for 3 miles. I finally caved in at 15 minutes in and went to the front and dragged the group up the last of the shallower grade. At the start of the steeps the group shatters, I see Pasco (p12 winner, old guy!) go up the road with Hans (m35 winner) a little ways, maybe 20s. But then Hans cracks off, and I'm stuck with Stephen (p12 3rd place) and we can't shed each other and neither wants to be the guy to close Pasco down. We blew it, once it got really steep and twisty I couldn't close him down. Pasco is 120lbs and Stephen is 125. I'm 185 today, and was happy to be hanging on.
Race ends with 1k of twisty flat/downhill. I was trying to get past Stephen and he was blocking. I snuck by on a left-hand corner and as soon as we came out of the corner the cones/line were there. Literally <5s after the corner. Pure luck. I'd never ridden the course before. Anyway, Stephen pipped me and kept me of a p12 podium 2 weeks ago so I was sort of happy to get lucky and eat his lunch this time.
Really fun race, $75 for 2nd and a pint glass.
