USCF Crits vs Collegiate Crits
I've only done collegiate crits so far, where there is a set number of laps. But i'm doing a USCF one in a few days and i don't understand how the time thing works, ie 45 minutes. So is it like, go as many laps as you can in 45 minutes and once 45 minutes is up, thats the last lap? Please explain, thanks.
Timed races are exactly that a specified time + a certain number of laps.. Usually it wil be 45 minutes + 3 to 5 laps.. Race promoters do this to keep on schedule expecially of there are a lot of races in 1 day..
I used to also race for Cal Poly before I raced uscf.. The fields will be much bigger in the uscf races so if you are racing cat 4 or 5 keep to the front 1/3 of the field to keep ahead of all trouble...

Around here they typically time the first 3 laps and get an average lap time and then calculate how many more laps based on that average will make up the 60 minutes. They post a lap count once this is figured out. So you may end up racing something like 55 minutes or 65 or so.
