Cascade 2014
Updated info is out on the 2014 edition..
I don't think the details are up yet, but here's the info from their FB feed:
Main changes are:
1) cat 2's have 4 days now (same courses as last year I think, just that the TT is on Thursday now for 2's)
2) Women 3/4's get their own race
3) Men 3/4's race together but are scored separately
I wish they would've just added another race on Thursday for the 2's.. but so it goes. I'll still be there most likely!

Forgot the most important part - The masters race! Haha
We are back to 35+ and 45+. We will race together but be scored separately. Not too happy about this change but the survey results must have encouraged the change. Unfortunately, I'm racing 44 and the rest of my team is 45+. We really liked the 40+ and that seemed to make the most sense, oh well.
No masters 3/4 which means Teton will have to spank us all!

i'm in! any excuse to get to bend...
actually, the TT course for the 2s is now the prineville course. the reason they shifted it to thursday is that the course is already set up for the p/1 race. (prineville wasn't/isn't an option for the saturday race as it would be impossible for the crew to tear down the TT start/finish/timing and make it all the way back to bend in time for the crits.)
the prineville TT is really honest and we'll see bigger gaps. it's also a big deal (IMO) that the TT is the first stage, so that could break the mold on that first RR a bit.
i'm super tempted by that format and might throw my hat in the ring for it. gotta figure out a few things first.
glad to see they are changing it up.
[i assumed they were using the same 30km course used at masters nationals, but it appears that a 25km course was used last year for the p/1s. presumably, they'll use the 25km this year for p/1 and cat 2. bummer on the shorter course!]
we'll likely see times more like 31-35' vs 18-22'.

says the guy who walked away with the GC ahead of how many national champs???
andysti = badass!
i have a pretty strong dislike for "raced together, scored separately" so am unlikely to do the masters thing. tons of talent in that field, of course -- i just don't like the way those scenarios can play out. i might be more interested if the masters raced prineville, too.
hm. decisions, decisions.

Well...wanting to do Cascade and if I do it will be solo unless I can assemble a ragtag team to participate with me. However, it appears I am slated to defend my thesis on the 18th (first day of Cascade). I'll try to reschedule the defense for the 16th, but if that fails, I'll have to check out Cascade in 2015.

Details are out on the race for 2014 - RR course is reversed, should be interesting!!
USAC Category Race | 2014 BMC Cascade Cycling Classic, Bend Oregon
Still a climby course but will be different. Also the cat 2 RR is now 90 miles instead of 70 woo hoo!

so are the cat 2's doing the pro/1 stage 2 RR (in reverse) now?
about the course reversal, they wrote "taking some of the advantage away from the pure climbers".
hm. not sure i agree. the normal way gains 1800' in ~22 miles, with 800 of it in ~3.5 miles toward the end. the reversed way gains 1800' in the last 10 miles (800' of that is in the last 4.5 miles).
pretty neat changes for the cat 2 field this year.

50-something days!! Looking forward to it.
Since the cat 2 TT is on Thursday, before the RR, it will change the dynamic of the RR on Friday I would imagine. Maybe someone (like me) who finished a few minutes back on the TT will be allowed to ride up ahead for the win in the RR.
Or not.
They heard your feedback: CAT 2, 3, 4 and Masters 40+ Registration | 2014 BMC Cascade Cycling Classic, Bend Oregon
Looks like they're going through active.com now, not that weird MBSEF website.
