Signed up for the Capital Region RR in the Cat4 field. It'll be my first venture into US soil this season so lets see how this goes. I'm riding better then I ever have and am climbing better too, so I'm curious to see how I do. Still thinking about Catskills, but really need to find someone local to share costs with your someone who's got space for a body. I've got no problem driving down alone, but the weekend of accommodations kind puts the cost out of reach.

3 hours is a bit long. It's probably how I got scored 6th at the Jiminy Peak RR, a race that I pulled out of one lap into the five lap race. I was probably pretty close to home (3 hour drive) when the race finished, yet I got mailed a check for 6th and a really nice mug. I mailed them both back, thanking them for the thought. For a year or two I heard a lot of "wow you've been riding super strong, 6th at Jiminy Peak!" and I'd have to explain. Then they'd grin and say, Oh, okay, now it makes sense.

From the other side I had a problem doing the White Plains results. The cloth numbers were just wrong for the camera and it was hard to read numbers. I also didn't focus the camera properly but I didn't realize it because I could barely see the screen for the haze. Finally the computer/etc was in the sun all day and it actually crashed due to the heat (the only reason I can think of). I had to do the P123 camera on the registration laptop, the one in the trailer. Now I know and it won't happen again, but at the time I didn't and I'm sure it was very frustrating for the racers.

feeling really good on the bike and itching to race. considering there's nothing going on next weekend (maybe wells ave?), I've more or less decided on capital region, even if I have to do the drive solo.

CRRR is a fun race, and tougher than the couse profile suggests. Those stairsteps on every lap are essentially one big climb at race pace, and the last step is the steepest of all.

Regarding accommodation for Catskills, this is probably about the cheapest way to go:

Anyone doing Mengoni Grand Prix on July 20th in Central Park?

After this week I'll be doing Rockleigh NJ every Thursday, that's a fun course.

Lou Maltese yesterday - I saw the P/1/2/3 strava times, sub 13 minute laps in the park, 28mph average for 2 hours. Insane!

Tour of Catskills is on! Found a place just outside of Windham, thanks GC for the link. Hopefully I can get a body or two from up north to come down and split costs, if not who cares. I was humming and hawing about going and then I was chatting with a friend about it. She simply said 'Do it, it sounds cool and you should go'. That got me thinking about how lucky I am to have the ability and financial resources to even go, so I thought it best not to waste the opportunity... No looking back, no regrets!

I'm doing the Capital Region RR next weekend and as of right now I'm coming down solo. I have space in my room if someone is in dire need of accommodations.

I'll know more later this week, but I may take you up on that...

I also might just crash at my mom's place in CT and do New Britain. Far more convenient for me and I can do two races, about 60 miles of racing...

I just pre-reg for the 3s and M45 for New Britain. Normally I don't pre-reg but I know that particular promoter doesn't like day of plus I figure I can give bikereg some money.

Yeah the finish line climb on Jarvis trying to catch or keep up really sucks. Four separate little steps. As does the climb on Tracy and Whitbeck. I'm not racing, but ride these roads a lot as they are all in the 8-12 miles from home. Certain race pace hurts as much as a strong group ride usually does to me.

ugh. so for the past few weeks i've noticed my chain dropping when i shift while cross chained. figured i just needed a new chain. was al amped up cleaning my bike and putting my race whees on for capital region. noticed my crank was lose, but it turns out that my crank was tight and the plastic derlin cups (spec. frame) the bb30 bearings fit in were lose in the frame causing the crank to have a ton of play. brought it to the local shop and they tried some quick fixes so I could race tomorrow, but nothing helped. they can make the chain drop while on the stand. they said i should go to a spec shop because the frame is toast. great.

in other words, no capital region rr for me

2014, the season that never got started.

Didn't crush it, but had fun. Held onto the main group for the bulk of the first lap until I was a knob and dropped my chain. I chased, but my day was done so i turned it into a good training day. Finished 36th, good enough for me considering my legs were absolutely dead. Need some good recovery leading into Catskills...

Pretty sure we'll be back next year! Very challenging course. You can't hide on courses like this. You either have the power to hang on, or you don't.
