out walking the earth
Seeing people on FB post things like there's probably more to the story and the guy probably deserved it causes me to lose a bit of faith in folks.

Crazy. The guy who did the punching had his contract terminated by his team. See: https://twitter.com/BikeRegRacing

Initially I was on Dave's side but the more I have heard about this the more it sounds a little more "understandable". Apparently the rumor going around is that Dave hip flung himself off of Jerome.
GLV has a bad rep around here for a reason.

It's a good thing you put "understandable" in scare quotes, because even if Dave did something wrong, escalating that to punching someone is simply way over the line. Grabbing someone by the hip and pulling them back is dirty play, but it's not physical assault.

Agreed. Physical assault is a different dimension than dirty play. But enough dirty play and someone will eventually get tipped over the edge. Jerome has lived up to what he did, disciplinary action is being taken, his team cut ties with him. He has / will / is paying for his actions. The thing that bothers a lot of people I think is when things occur on a somewhat regular basis that are just toeing the line of acceptable behavior that people seem to get away with.

My teammate just loves to do that on training rides. Except he's not quite as coordinated as he thinks he is so it usually results in barely not crashing. He also loves to ride no handed in the pack, with similar results.

Then deal with it when you're out of "uniform". USAC punishment is forthcoming. He could have avoided all that by taking it off the field.

I'm not saying it's right, but I can see how after ~2hrs of cold rainy crit riding where you're on edge and amped up, in a race with some prestige attached to it, something like that might have my temper get the best of me.

Just to further clarify I'm definitely not endorsing his actions, he shouldn't have been swinging, but I can't say I wouldn't have be ballistic under similar circumstances. I'd like to think that I would handle it differently.

If I had the mental and physical energy to beat somebody up right after the end of a race, I think that would mostly indicate that I didn't go hard enough.

Too bad the hip fling didn't get caught on video so that guy could be disciplined. This sport is dangerous enough without that kind of crap.

I've had people pull on the back of my jersey, but, I've never had anyone grab -- polk or bump, sure -- my hip.
