caps under helmets

Ever notice how 3/4/5's wear cycling caps under helmets, but p/1/2's never do?

Yes euro pros sometimes wear them for wet spring classics, but that's not really relevant to us.

Discuss.

Next up we can talk about masters riders wearing do-rags under their helmets.

I generally don't race with one. I train with one pretty regularly. On the trainer.

I wear head sweats so I don't get tanlines when my hair is shorn super short. I think I own maybe 41 different ones.

In the rain - always. Temps in the low 40s, before I put on a hat - maybe. Do-rag - never.

I wear head sweats to keep the sweat under control so it doesn't get into my eyes as easily. If I don't wear one, I'm much less comfortable, and have a lot more sweat to mop up with my gloves, and more frequently.

Ever get a sunburn on your scalp, in a helmet vent pattern? I have, once. Once.

I wear a cap if it's 35-55*F degrees or if it's raining and less than 80*F. I've tried doo-rags/head-sweats and I don't like how they feel.

I hate them in races unless it's pouring. I feel like they don't do anything with the bill flipped up, and flipped down I can't see anything if I'm in a remotely aero position.

Lately I've been cutting off the tops of my caps and wearing them backwards. It seems to do a good job of drawing and directing the sweat to the back.

You guys are terrible, maybe they are in chemotherapy.

On my drive up to Crater Lake I went aggro on a slow driver, and when I passed, it was a bald lady with a dog on her lap. I'm officially a terrible person now.

Nothing feels quite as bad as being publicly shamed by a guy with ferret on his screen name.

oh the shame!

of course, another explanation is that the guys with the do rags have a real lousy sense of cycling style.

A number of my 45/4 competitors wear do-rags. These are, outside of their cycling careers, generally respected and upstanding members of society. I'm reminded that Laurent Fignon's pony tail supposedly cost him more than the 8 seconds he lost the Tour by, so it really pisses me off that the local do-rags are still faster than I am. It's basically just showing off.

I suppose I'll start wearing one myself sooner or later; maybe when I podium I'll become do-rag worthy?

Wearing a cap under the helmet when it helps is smart. You might even call it "pro".

Wearing a cap under the helmet as a fashion statement is 41.

Personally I never do, but I always train with a sweat band on. Definitely not a pro look, but it works for me.
