Actually I won that shimano wheelset when I won ballard, but then started using it soon after.

Won Seward Park later that year with the mixed-drivetrain setup.

More recently I ran a 10-sp campy cassette with 11-sp campy everything else.. actually worked decently except for a few cogs. (was a temporary thing until I got the new bike)

starting to see some more progress on what di2 can really do.

the d-fly has the best/worst part # (EWW-01).

Shimano adds computer control to Dura Ace Di2 levers - VeloNews.com

i've had one for a little while, and shimano's been promising new features. for now it has been limited to reporting/transmitting gear combinations to the head unit.

cool that head unit manufacturers (and others) might be able to define how they handle the input.

old news? confirmation of that feature was just announced today, to my knowledge.

unless you mean the EWW-01 in general...

in a way it's old... long rumored, but just enabled in firmware for EWW.. now it's time for Garmin to enable it.

ah, i'd never heard that rumor. maybe my head was under a rock. there were lots swirling about capabilities of the unit, but i'd never heard anything about it transmitting commands to other devices/head units.

It integrated with the Shimano SCIO at announcement and with the Garmin 1000 when it shipped. I'm not interested in an iPhone sized computer on my bars so no interest today. However my 800 is getting a little long in the tooth so I have been watching to see what might be coming next.

wow--i must have missed those announcements at launch.

all i'd ever read was that it did send data (gear selection only) back to the SCIO via ANT (not ANT+) at pre-launch and launch; yesterday was the first i heard of it sending commands and doing so via ANT+.

garmin could enable this for other models (500/510, 800/810) via a FW update if they choose.

I've been looking at one myself, interested in your feedback. I suppose you could leave it on the bike during races for filming as well (easy to mount and not too bulky).

Neat camera. I hope they get smaller and smaller so front-facing ones don't look so dorky.

I doubt it. Garmin has a long history of planning obsolescence.

the shimano ones aren't so bad....less dorky than the gopro.

agreed. garmin's pretty terrible when it comes to this sort of thing. i can see them not implementing in the 500/800, but since the 510 and 810 are current products, they really should implement it (assuming they get around to it in a timely fashion for the 1000).

anyway, i don't care too much about the specific ability to control a menu in a garmin head unit but i think the notion of opening the system up to controls in general has some interesting possibilities. would be really cool if the system were open.

Polaroid has a pretty small camera, but I've never actually seen it in use or any of its video.

i think the "dork factor" is related to anything that sits upright and has a blocky look to it.

the gopro has this, and the polaroid is also going for the upright cube look.

the older contour was not small but presented as a bit more sleek, more low-profile than the go pro. the shimano is similar in that regard.

i've used various iterations of the contour, gopro and shimano cameras, mostly in a skiing context. gopro's image quality is still the best, but each camera has some interesting features.

a friend is sponsored by gopro and has done some really good edits over the years. he usually has multiple angles and some off-the-body shots....the stuff that is purely on the body (on the bike) is rarely all that great and gets tired if it is anything other than a short clip.

GoPro Video Of The Day | Andrew Whiteford's "Backy"
edit...figured out how to embed it.

that's a popular cliff in the jackson hole sidecountry called 'fat bastard'.

those videos are more interesting when there is another perspective for context, IMO.
