I don't anticipate him getting another ride at the WT level, the new sprinters are better than him- and even among his generation of sprinters he didn't win much.

He'll do fine around here for a few years if he wants to- we might get to see him at Seward/Mason Lake for a while

For some reason cyclocross bikes don't count though.

We all know why and I wish you'd quit bringing it up.

I also get free coffee for wearing a cycling cap.

See also: "the policeman's crash".

That new "Etape" book has a good backstory on it.

I think I usually do around 300k per year and I'm old and fat.

umd did it in around 20k miles, I think. Wonder how he's doing, haven't seen him in a long time.

Reading the Velonews piece on Robin Williams. He's one of the SF comedians I grew up...actually forgot what a bike guy he was.

Sad.

I have been racing every weekend and don't really do any climbing rides anymore. It was like 3 weeks since I did a ride over 5k.

i'm sure farrar is actually an amazing sprinter (to even be anywhere near that level on the international scene--even losing-- one has to be very, very good)...but he is just so damn whiney. does anyone really enjoy watching him and/or root for him? seems like he's often got someone to blame for his crash or his loss.

maybe i've missed the positive points to his character. i'm sure they're there, but while he is a professional athlete he is not so professional at post-race composure.

I saw a "new" rider at the races Tues in a new-to-me kit, a green Trek kit. Posted a post and mentioned the racer. A bunch of people pointed out it's one of my teammates. Oops.

conjecture, but i think he's just an emotional guy who a) feels the pressure to perform; b) hasn't delivered consistently so feels the pressure even more; c) is frustrated by that; d) wears emotions on his sleeve; e) gets english speaking mic and camera in front of him before he's had a chance to have the post race adrenaline subside; and doesnt come off very well because of that. proof in the pudding is that he's always been a second tier sprinter relative to his peers but the toolbox to compete against classics guys just isnt filled with enough tools. from 40,000 foot view, his career would probably have been best as a leadout man, rather than a closer.

I had to miss our team/group ride this week because of family stuff, so I tried out a nearby town's group ride. I know a few racers who do this ride, but none of them was there, and it turned out to be not super fun. Very mixed abilities and the ride didn't really have a coherent focus. I was very uncomfortable riding behind some of them, so I ended up pulling the group around for most of the ride. Another guy would repeatedly attack for no reason, then he'd go back into the group and I'd pull until he decided to attack again. During one of those attacks, somebody washed out on a turn and broke his frame, I think because the speed was higher than he was used to.

Then on the last climb suddenly another guy decided to go hard, and it turned out he was stronger than me, or at least stronger than me after I've been pulling for 2 hours. I looked him up afterwards and he's a cat 1.

The whole ride was just sort of confusing to me. I think maybe most group rides are like this. It really made me appreciate my local group.

The thing is that he's a long time racer in the area, has a kit, but I literally never see him outside of race days, and even then it's really infrequent.

Was he part of the plan to race for you, or was he just doing his own thing?
