Indeed, I've been called an addict.. withdrawal sucks.
Btw you should really read that Gaimon book; he talks about how when racing/riding is your job, it's actually not that fun anymore (at times).
Plus we generally make a lot more $$$ than they do!! #couldbeworse

My glaucoma has progressed to the point where lasers are no longer effective. I go under the knife next Tuesday. No riding at all for at least two weeks maybe more. Once it heals and my vision clarity returns there is no reason why I cannot resume my normal lifestyle. Sucks, but it would be good to be able to see again. Perspective.

You getting the water blister/valve thingy done? My dad finally went that route after running out of new drugs, then the old laser surgery they don't do anymore, then a newer one, then this surgery 8 or so years go. Now they just go in and add a stitch or take one out every year or two to adjust the pressure. Have you had the cataracts yet? One thing to look forward to is that a large portion of the people who get the lasers/follow up surgeries end up needing cataract surgery within a few years after that. That one isn't a big deal though. Best of luck.

The anticipation still sucks, though.

I'm not surprised. Just noting it.
I have been addicted to, at various times, food (sugar, really), online gaming (lineage, planetside, world of warcraft, etc...), FPS games (competitive), then cycling -> now racing.
This is a particularly bad Monday as I'm down on my performance yesterday. Just bummed out. WOE IS ME, GUYS.

Somewhere in there my fiance fits into the picture, but she's been busy so....lol.

was watching a cycling-related flick, Overcoming, the other day. basso was 2nd GC going into the alpe d'huez TT. he had a disappointing stage (finished 8th or 10th) and lost 2' to armstrong. he's literally considering an end to his career.
the guy's alone in his hotel room, eating a plain rice cake. so sad.
putting the doping thing aside, here is a pro athlete at the top of his sport....and his indulgence during the TdF is eating a rice cake.
it's easy to look at the race wins, podium presentations, etc., and imagine the life is all glamor.

On my 9th service manager at the job. This one is going to try and force me to work Saturdays, as did #7 (unsuccessfully).
He has not yet threatened to fire me but instead said he would hire another guy, which would take away part of my already meager income.
I shouldn't have to go through this crap at this stage of my life.

Good luck shovelhd. Just think how awesome it will be when you climb back on the bike for the first time after recovery. I don't like the various beatdowns we take over the years, but the recoveries are really enjoyable with all the gains and freshness (aside from whatever lingering recovery still needs to happen)
Awesome! Kill it.
Interview #2 Friday morning.

For the Redlands Classic half our town hosts pro's in our homes, even teams like SmartStop can't afford hotels.

I know / met a few continental pros and outside of getting treated like rockstars by other cyclists it seems like a rough life. I don't think any of them make close to a living wage (unlike the UCI guys) but they do get new bikes every few months.
