There's a restaurant right under my dorm that has deliciously fantastic drunk food. My life is complete.

I would add h plus son rims to the list as well. cheaper than pacenti (comparable to a23) and super super nice. i've been insanely happy with my h plus son/ultegra build for training.

the "balanced" reporting aside, with people without scientific equipment just knowing that someone is speeding, this is not going to end well; neither for the victim nor for the cyclists in general. You can bet that the woman's husband will throw weight around to curtail fast riding in the park. All too unfortunate given that thingsran relatively well for many years.
I'm facebook friends with that guy. I'm not entirely sure who he is though.

and, uh…

no they haven't. a guy (homeless) got killed by a pace car once. cycling races start at first light because basically the relationship with other park users has been a train wreck.

thanks...and thanks @globecanvas, too.

i realized i have a couple DA hubs here, so i decided to go ahead and build a set of pacentis w/ cx-rays and these DA 9000 hubs. they'll be a bit heavier than the c24s, but i'll run a wider tire setup for training.

probably could have dropped in the h plus son or a23s instead of the pacentis, but it's nice to have the tubeless option. build will probably be 150g heavier than the shimano build due to weight of the rims, but no biggie for my training wheels. will work out as the wife will get light, bomber wheels out of it, too, and she doesn't need more than 23s whereas i'll occasionally ride 25s or 27s.

i appreciate the dialogue. it definitely influenced my decision-making.

are you referring to the ITT when the hedge fund manager plowed into a homeless guy?

yeah, i understand it's a train wreck otherwise, but by relatively well compared to when one gets followed at 6am on a cold February morning by police cruisers back in 2011. Since then, there's that gentlemen's agreement where we were allowed relatively unfettered access before 8am and after 8 pm (as in running red lights). Chances are, these privileges will be taken away.

pretty sure it was a mass start park race, but whatever. bottom line is a guy got killed, and the ramifications were minor because he was homeless. there shouldn't be bike racing in new york city parks

Are the hubs 16/20, and if so are you building them yourself? No idea what your wheel building experience is, but I'd be askeered to build a 16/20 wheel myself.

Not in the least. I don't think they should be allowed to be held and I rarely do them anymore. They're way too dangerous.

the only thing I do not like about the pacenti rims i have (my "race" wheels) is that because they are tubeless ready, fitting clinchers on them is VERY tight. i've only ever mounted vittoria evo corsa so maybe they are particularly tight, but it is a total PITA. using stans tape instead of standard rim tape helps. for a training wheelset might get annoying if you have to put a new tube in on the road.

That sounds like the right call. Does that move you to all wide rims? If so, that's an added plus.

Granted, i was less mature and more combative, but i don't think my position has changed. That saud, it has to be limited to very certain hours of the day in CP. After that, throw the books

Report back in 4-6 months when you have decided to become a sprinter after gaining your freshman 15.

But i think i've lost weight since going to college. It's hard to eat as much as i used to. There aren't three dozen cookies sitting on my kitchen table anymore.

no, shimano does not make 16 or 20h hubs available at wholesale or retail. i had DA 24 & 28h hubs here, so that's what i plan to go with.

good point. hadn't thought about it. i plan on using stan's tape as that's what i have. i don't flat very often.

yes, i'll have all wide rims. to be honest, my brakes are super easy to adjust in terms of width, so switching between wide and narrow wasn't that big a deal for me, but it IS one less thing to do. (will still have to switch pads.)

Same problem with the A23s, but running 25s really helps... With the 23s I had it was near impossible to mount the tire on.

good to know. i ordered up those pacentis and this is the one small regret. i imagine i'll be running 25s or 27s most of the time. i read that they don't work as well with open-tubular-style 23s vs, say, gp4000s 23s.

My wife and I are taking a vacation from october 10th through the 20th. We normally go to San Diego and stay at her family's vacation house and invite people down for riding/eating.

All my loser teammates lie @mattm are non-committal or "busy" or "working" or whatever.

Any other vacation suggestions within driving distance of SF, so I can bring my bike.

I'd go to Phoenix but everyone there is broken. Santa Barbara is OK, but for like a week?
