So doosh submitted a web update to Development, Test, and Production 20 minutes before the end of work on a Friday. Since his boss was the only manager left I couldn't fight it. Of course since it was to all 3 environments at the same time it wasn't tested and completely failed. Production downtime, meaning I'm going to have to make a lot of preemptive loud noises on Monday. Because of all this my wife was stuck at the airport for 90 minutes. Not that I'm averse to working late in a crisis, but this shouldn't have happened.

The last new guy we hired pushed a trivial fix to production just to learn the process. Turns out the trivial fix had a side effect that broke seemingly unrelated stuff. There was little harm done, we reverted the commit after about 5 minutes (the instant the first user reported the problem).
I think it ended up as a net positive, because the guy who made the mistake was mortified and is now incredibly cautious about never assuming the effects of any changes are contained to a predictable context. Scared straight.

We have 3 seperate environments, he just put in the change for all 3 at the same time. There systematic control where this couldn't be done was years ago, but we really haven't had any major issues so our managers have really let the brakes off.

With any luck, they will dust off the common sense controls on Monday.

I work at a tiny place and it was a bit of a "free for all" a few years ago from what I hear. But we have made good progress.
Speaking of doosh:
We have a reporting server that was crashing in the mornings during heavy workload. Seemed to be caused by a battery on a disk controller or something. Battery on order.
2:00 in the afternoon, a guy comes over and asks me if there's a problem with "Server A", because he lost his connection. "Crap" I think, now it's happening during the workday. Sure enough, I can't connect either.
I go into our computer closet, and "Bill" our desktop and basic maint guy has it pulled out of the rack with the cover off, but looks to still be running. All the green lights look happily blinking.
Me: "Bill, did you shut this down, or reboot or something ?"
Bill: "No, just looking at it. Wanted to see where the battery was."
Me: "Hmmm, we can't connect, but looks like it's running ok."
Bill: "Well, I had to unplug the network cable so I could pull it out all the way, do you want me to plug it back in ?"
Me: Facepalm

At a large financial company one of our servers went down (we had placed our servers in their data centers to provide them with our services). Ends up someone doing maintenance had yanked on something, pulling the power cord out of the server.
I still think this is great. I first saw it when I was working for that above company and someone sent me the link and said "this totally reminds me of what I see you doing!". Minus email stuff, plus linux stuff. I didn't play Halo, I played counterstrike, and I didn't play at work. It was originally only on their website and I'm going to say it was 2006 or 2007, whenever Halo was hot stuff.

I'm upstate a short drive from a bike shop advertising a CAAD10 Black with Di2 for under 2k. Very tempting, but it's a 54 and I ride a 56 generally and the geometry of my guru is the following...
Virtual Size: 569mm
Measured Size: 520mm
Top tube c-c: 570mm
Head Tube: 160mm
Seat Angle: 73°
Head Angle: 72.5°
Yeah, I know, anyone want me to pick it up for them?

My 6 year old Centaur Groupset went for almost 500 dollars on eBay. I didn't think they were worth half that but sometimes its good to be wrong

A friend and I were on our usual morning ride when, on the other side of the road, we see three foreigners (one Finnish and two Spaniards) on fully loaded tourers trudging along. It's a rare sight in this part of the country, so we decided to say hi. Turns out they've been riding for 5 months and started from Istanbul. Cool stuff. They of course avoided the not-so-safe countries along the way.

Also: Really? You're vegetarian now? It's been so long, I don't know if you're serious or not.
I have a girnomous phone. Also my new HTC M8 has arrived yesterday, and it's also big. Bleh, I want smaller phone that is not fruit related. Sorry @mattm.

Wait, Canadian thanksgiving is on Indigenous People's Day? I guess I never put those two together before, or is it just chance because of it being the second Monday in October?

Wait, you're in India... ok so they went through Kazakhstan instead of Iran... but then what? Via China?

My wife is going to be out of town on Friday and Saturday and I'm already trying to work out the logistics for getting the kids from school, getting them to three soccer games, and arranging for sitting while I'm at my team's fall meeting and "awards banquet." I don't know how single parents do it.
