does anybody know how bad it is if you get little chips of asphalt on your skin? got off some using rubbing alcohol, but had to wait a bit to get the rest off of me using goof off. I know there's stuff like benzene and aromatic solvents in asphalt, but what else are there?
really weird how i got asphalt chips on me from the milled portions of the parking lot...

eh...unless you're really covered in it you should be ok. the biggest issue would be irritation to the skin that you may want to get treated if it is painful. the asphalt mix is a heavier end hydrocarbon and contains less BTEX, naphthalene, and other compounds of concern than a gasoline or diesel fuel. there are more compounds of concern in the goof off
general msds for your reference:

If I was dumb enough to cash out my 401k I'd have the $$ for a 20% down payment, but I'm not that dumb yet so I need to either win the lottery or wait until my stock grants vest. Or I could put down less than 20%, but that makes things really expensive in the long run.
From talking to the bank today it sounds like having that 20% makes a huge difference in your monthly payments due to mortgage insurance if you didn't pay the 20% up front.
What I don't get is I drive around Cupertino or Los Gatos (really expensive cities inside an already expensive area), and you see normal cars in most driveways.. where are they getting all the money?! Or if they have expensive cars, how many people can be directors/bosses/etc??
Oh well, life goes on.

On a side note. It's surprising how many people rent out their spare bedrooms or convert garage in to another room and rent that out.
In 09/10 you could get a house for 420k ish with 20% down. That translates to around $1500 a month mortgage and 5k a year property tax. So about 2k a month. If someone wasn't too picky. The rates were super low, and it was before all outside investors jumped in with cash offers.
Now you would be lucky to find an apartment in descent area for that much. It's insane!
Just seat it out, let your stocks vest (which I hear Fruit company offers a ton of), and when economy takes a ****ter within next 5 years or so buy a house. Probably not here thought.

I would use lacquer thinner followed by a good scrubbing with a detergent.

vegetable oil is a surprisingly good degreaser. I always use it after working on the bike or car, then wash with normal soap.

Of course, that was a trick a lot of people used before the housing bubble burst, and I'm not sure if it's still an option.

Is anyone else bothered by the unnecessary comma after Now?
And Fudgy, based on days on the market, my guess is there is something seriously wrong with the Hull Street house, which is why it went for so little - relatively speaking.

MR Arthrogram came back clean...which means I have no ****ing clue why my hip and leg hurts when I ride, and more recently at the end of my runs. The doctor never suspected a torn labrum in the first place, and the MR Arthrogram confirms that. She wants me to continue with the strengthening..which so far hasnt made anything better, if anything the pain is become more frequent and sets in faster when I do ride.

4 of us went across the U.S. in 1990. We hit a section with road work somewhere in Mississippi, I think. The first 3 of us got through with just some oil and little balls of tar stuck to the leg hair but the 4th guy, who was way back, got covered in tar and oil. He then spent the next 4 hours cleaning his bike and didn't go to dinner with us, which slowed him even more the next day.
Served him right, he was being a dick.

@echappist try some dawn dish detergent. it's a great surfactant for petrol based stuff and should clean you up. otherwise, we might have to amputate.

We rushed to buy our first home in 02 just before the boom. We bought in at 200k and it was valued at 400k in two years. Tried to sell it right at peak, didn't happen. The neighborhood started to depreciate and we were at a loss as the original owners started dying off and less desirables replaced them. Still we waited 6 years until our home had some value and the 30 year interest hit 3.25%. We bought in a great neighborhood just prior to everything skyrocketing again. We made 100k value on our home in 3 months.
It was hard, and my wife hated me for 5 years waiting for the market to turn, but we probably saved about 1k a month in our mortgage by being patient. Just remember, home value is 'funny money' its not real, and changes all the time. Mostly up, but when it goes down, it drops like a rock.
