We refinanced a few years ago and thought "never again." But now I'm thinking I better take another look at the deal we got.

I did a no cost refi. The bank effectively lowered the interest rate for no cost to me. It saves X per month without adding to the principal or paying any out of pocket transaction costs. Obviously, there are many other ways to do it and some banks demand the borrower pays transaction costs and it may be possible to pay transaction costs and other fees to reduce the interest rate.

I doubt they went down much in just a couple of weeks. A tick up or down won't make much difference. If you have a long term fixed, you will be happy you got in when you did when rates eventually go back up.

Why, I remember my first house was 10%

I paid as much extra principal as I could to try and pay the damn thing down.

My first house was 14% + 2.5% PMI. Doubled my money on three years.

Jeff Gundlach saying the 10 year treasury may go to 1 percent if oil drops to 40. Which will mean a drop in the 30y, which may mean 30y mortgages below 3% at the end of the year. Of course, this means the global recession will worsen, but good news for some US homeowners.

Yessir, will do. It appears to be adjustable so that you can raise it off your head a bit, so I'd wager if it's hot out it'll still work well.

Currently browsing for a set of hoops. Cycling is a ridiculous sport, anything nice with power is basically the KBB value of my car.

Two years ago we got our house at 3.25 on a 30. It was also during a time which the market was in a lull. Had we bought three months later when both prices and rates went up, our mortgage would be $500 more.

We got that deal as a Veteran's program. We live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Those men get sweet deals on stuff when they come home.

posted this earlier, but i rode the air attack for a race season. basically, if you're moving >20mph i found it pretty comfortable in any weather (into the 90s). sort of has a layer of air between your head & the padding.

you feel reduced ventilation when you go up a steep climb in the heat....e.g., slower speeds on 5-10% grades.

not saying that adversely affects performance, but you feel hotter.

My Scott Foil (with a Duracci SRM) and Scott Plasma 3 TT (with a Rotor SRM) are each worth about $1k less than my car. I also have two sets of carbon tubulars (Stinger 6 and 303), though both purchased used. No wonder i managed to save up jack squat in my first year of employment, which is when i bought the Foil, the Plasma, and the wheels. Talk about pent up consumerism when i started earning an actual wage.

I also recently put in an order to retrofit my Lynskey with couplers, which is worth $3k less than my car without PM and wheels but requires a $400 case for traveling. i need help... I had promised myself no more major purchase after i get the retrofit, but the BB on my Foil is creaking so bad that i think i may need to swap the frame. There goes another $1500...

@tetonrider describe hot weather...

I remember when those helmets started showing up in huge numbers at the beginning of the season last year, in January. Everyone seemed to have one and wore it on every group ride and race, but about by late season they started disappearing from melons, never to return. This year seeing one of those aero helmets is like seeing a unicorn.

They are a winter helmet as far as most are considered around here, so those guys who only have one hat won't be buying an air attack, evade, etc.

We refinanced three years ago, going from 4.25 30yr fixed to 3.125 15yr fixed. The monthly payment went up, but I am saving so much money on interest.

I've been checking the rates, but 15yr rates remain just above 3 percent, so there's no reason to refinance there. I've also considered going back to a 30yr fixed, because those rates have fallen under 4 percent, just to reduce my monthly payment, but really it doesn't make much sense from a long term perspective. (Mostly, that interest has been driven by the fact that my wife has yet to find a new full-time job - she's got a couple part-time positions - and things are quite tight in our house right now.)

It used to be known as Crack-and-Fail due to the frequency with which its early aluminum frames would break.

Somethings always wrong with the evo. The hub is loose for the third time, the first time we discovered the wheels are not assembled correctly. The crank still doesn't spin freely in the stand if I spin backwards, and now it's clicking when I climb or accelerate at low cadence. The bb and spindle has only been rechecked twice. I feel like I'm trying to daily drive a porsche gt2, it's like pushing a rock uphill. So I got the caad10 yesterday and can't ride it because the cables are too tight and no matter how I put garmin and headlight mounts on, it screws with everything. That's an easy fix but it annoys me so because I have two black inc bikes that can't currently be ridden.

I'm driving a 2007 Toyota Corolla LE with only 93k and I kind of want a new car (for novelty)...

I'm riding a (2009?) caad9 with a few years on it and I kind of want a new frame (for novelty)...

Both of these purchases, however, would be totally un-prudent for me. Neither my car nor my frame hold me back in any sense of the word, and they are both totally reliable. Plus, I'm not exactly bank rolling as a chemist... should've done (chem) engineering, in retrospect. But hey, it's hard to know what your interests will be in the workplace when you're still a college student.

I'll just be happy with what I have, and continue to save money and pay off student loan debt, which is still at ~15k
