I hate oxycontin.. my body dislikes it very much... I'd rather have percocet.. or even just a few advils.

Just for the record, riders cannot ever be downgraded to Cat5 for any reason. Also, if a rider has ever held an annual license and USAC has a record of it, they cannot get a one day license.

A racer could lie, use a fake name, intentionally break the rules, and register for an easier category. I'm sure it would be possible to cheat if you tried, just as it's possible to cheat in various other ways in bike racing, and life. But it's clearly against the rules.

@harolddelaney, if your goal here is to "out" some particular racer as a sandbagger, or any other kind of cheater, it's really pointless. That's what slowtwitch is for

I was just pointing out the rules. There are checks and balances in place to combat cheating, but as you say, if someone is hellbent on cheating they have a shot at being successful.

Sure, my comment wasn't meant as a rebuttal to what you said at all. The guy keeps asking why somebody would be allowed to downgrade to 5, even after being told repeatedly (in a thread that got closed) that downgrading to 5 is against the rules. I was just clarifying that "not allowed" is not equivalent to "physically impossible" which is a distinction that some forum posters have trouble with.

i know of a guy who had an international license for one category and a usca license for another. he got caught when he raced two different categories in the same day (harlem, as I recall). Still, if we're outing let's out harry.

This used to be somewhat common in the past. We see it sometimes with the Canadian riders.

Back in 2008(?) The Australian Jr National Team came over and rocked the Cat 3 field at Fitchburg Stage Race. They were...not slow.

I've raced against a member of the Venezuelan national team, who was able to do a Cat 3 race here. He, too, was not slow.

eh, i'm not looking to get banned from here. seems like you're all pretty sensitive about a little trash talk. but man, if you're willing to sandbag then you better be willing to take some heat when it comes your way, no?. i think deep down you all agree and love some excitement. whatevs.

really just wanted some more clarification on the cat 5 downgrade rule. imma call this dude out next time i see him.

I've seen plenty of evidence showing that rule can be easily contravened.

But why? Why would you want to race as a 5?

I guess I just don't get it. Maybe I've never been good enough at anything to have chicks be interested in my for athletic prowess. Sure there was a time in high school when I cook whip anyone's ass in the JV heat of the 100m or 200m dash, but that's what it was, the JV heat. Who cared if it was meaningless. Or maybe it wasn't meaningless and I just didn't know it. The only girl I was in a relationship with in college I didn't know we'd been in a relationship until a couple months after we were done when a mutual friend mentioned something about how she was still a bit pissed at me about our break up. "Still?" "Pissed?" "Break up?" None of those were things I'd noticed. I was what they used to call a "late bloomer". Now they'd probably use some medical terms like aspergers or something instead. But still, I don't get the whole downgrading to impress a girl.

As with all rules and laws, it takes enforcement to be effective. If registration staff are not checking categories before handing out numbers, then they are not enforcing the rule. If officials are letting the Cat3 Junior slide and sign up for a one day license because Mom forgot to mail the waiver to USAC, then they are not enforcing the rule.
