KP - that's awesome, Belgium is many things- I guarantee it's not exactly what you think, but it a decent place to live. Seems like you could certainly be happy there, you are just hard-nosed enough
GStein- that's terrifying to go through, glad to hear you made it out with the pieces all connected to the other pieces.
Fudgy - nicely done, especially for getting it done in the timeframe you did, that's legit.

/41 alert...
So, in my crash the other day, it turns out that I totaled my training bike. The purple steel centurion that I had put so many miles on and loved so much is toast - a serious dent in the top tube has put it out of alignment. Bummer.
The up side to this, is that I get to play new bike day (!!!), hence the 41 alert. I would like the replacement frame to be the same material (steel), but with a nicer tubeset, configured for more modern componentry and possibly more aggressive. I would like suggestions please; I'm pretty ignorant about this stuff.
I am currently looking at in-production steel road frames with moderately aggressive geometry, and a ~1k price point, which rules out many custom builders. From what I've found online, there is the Gunnar Roadie (top of my price range), all the way down to Surley's Pacer and the Soma Smoothie, which are as cheap as I want to go. The Ritchey Road Logic seems to be a nice compromise between that range at ~1k for the frame and full carbon WCS fork, where the Gunnar is 1k for just a frame.
Can anyone offer me additional suggestions?
I've found a used Rock Lobster (True Temper S3) with perfect dimensions online that looks quite enticing to me, but I want to make sure that I've (mentally) covered all of my bases before I make a big purchase
Advice appreciated,
-Tmonk.

At Battenkill. In between the last start and the first finish. Hanging out with Dave Towle eating pizza. Kind of fun to be here without the stress of racing.

Sometimes Soma has specials on their website with big discounts, too.
If that Rock Lobster is the right price, that might the way to go, though.

Yeah I'm leaning toward the rock lobster as it is cool, has a nice paint scheme and a good tubeset (True Temper S3), although I don't know anything about that really and probably won't notice.
The Soma looks nice, hard to argue with the price...
