Went to see my allergy/asthma doctor today for my annual check up, and my pulmonary numbers were higher than I have ever seen them. In fact, they were up more than ten percent over last year. I really don't know what caused the change but I am glad to hear it.

Hooray for good news at the doctor's office!

Anyway. Moved into our new house this weekend. And so we begin a to-do list that is several years long.

We've about hit 7 years in this house, nowhere near started. Last house I was there 15 years and started seeing the end of the tunnel.

Around 10 years is where the stuff you already did, you start having to do it again. it really, truly never ends.

All our fixes are done, what is left is cosmetic (i.e. stuff we think is ugly) but its a 70's home so that's a lot. This year we are going to try and hunker down and get some of it done.

Our house was built in 1927, remodeled in 1958, and we bought it in 2001. There's always something to do.

re: homes ...

My wife and I have been shopping for a home for a short while now in our town. We're quickly realizing that we'll have to settle and move very fast on anything we kinda like. Most of the homes we've looked at have been listed on Friday and then off the market the following Sunday. Pickings are slim for "decent" homes (e.g., need some modernization) and slimmer for modern turnkey homes.

Am i a miserly scrouge for thinking that people who start a gofundme in order to fund their trip to Nats are a bit too entitled?

First its a gofundme for a trip and stay @ Nats
Then its a gofundme for medical bills from Nats
Don't forget the gofundme for bike replacement

Some friends just had a gofundme for their cat's surgery and raised $3k+ doing it. Yeah I gave money, but in the back of my head I'm thinking that if you can't afford to pay for things that happen to pets you shouldn't have pets. They ain't IKEA furniture, they're alive.

Grumble grumble.

the thing is, i'm relatively generous when it comes to friends. When i was still a broke ass grad student, I hosted dinner parties and bought beer (Ommegang, not PBR) and made seafood risotto. At restaurants, I am known for excusing myself to go to the restroom and picking up the entire tab.

The instant situation arose because the club ran out of money and can't fund the trip, and the riders want to fly to Nats (costing ~$800 per) as opposed to make the 10 hour one-way drive (which i would presume would cost $1000 for the rental, if not less should they go for the school provided vehicle). On top of this, the club never had money problems before, and the club still managed to send people to Nats. It seems that the financial predicament is largely due to mismanagement, and now they just want someone else to pick up the tab.
