My wife and I got a GoPro for Christmas, I guess it was 2013, jeez. We've used it to see what our dog is up to when we leave (spoiler alert: she sleeps a lot). That's pretty much it. I've considered using it as a dashcam or when I go for rides, mostly for insurance reasons, not because anything exciting happens.

I occasionally use my GoPro for races, and it is useful when you are still learning to race. The better you are at racing, less of a need there is (unless you win )

If I got one, I'd probably only mount it rearward and use it so someone could find out what happened if I got hit. My life is too boring to live through it more than once.

I use my Virb only for races. No one wants to see footage of me riding in flat boring Ohio

even most race helmet cam videos are painfully boring. there are certainly exceptions (CDRs because of his race analysis, NRC crits, etc.), but the helmet cam fad is lost on me.

I think they're interesting (or can be at least) to the person recording them, and 30 seconds worth is interesting to friends/family who don't ride. Everyone else couldn't care less. There's certainly exceptions, as you say, and there's clips that are interesting, but overall, they're extremely boring. CDR's are good because they're well edited. I'm sure his entire raw footage would be boring too.

I like the idea, but I already spend enough time analyzing power data/etc... sounds like it takes even more time to edit the damn videos!
Maybe I could outsource the video editing part to a lowly cat 2 on our team!

Come to aero on friday!
I'm pretty psyched about it even though I really didn't see myself going there.

My impression is that worcester is "up and coming" though I've only been there a couple of times in the early 2000's while I was in college, so can't speak out of personal experience. Plus you'll always have Boston nearby, even if driving more than 15 minutes to get anywhere around here sucks!

Takes me about 2 hours to edit a video, and has taken longer, to the point I'd be embarrassed to say how long. That includes synching the power data, converting file types, parsing it out to a short highlight reel, and mixing in commentary and music.

I spend ~8-12 hours editing pretty much minimum. This doesn't include the time to import the clip (2-3 hours), export a finished version into a viewable .mov file (hour plus per clip), or upload (3-8 hours).
My steps:
1. Pull in the portions I want in the clip.
2. Trim if it seems a bit much.
3. Add beginning and end title bars.
4. Put in the text
5. Put in the music. I want some flow so I spend time with different songs in the same spots. I have a limited selection of permissioned songs (and many aren't bike clip appropriate) so I try to use as many different songs as possible.
6. List people I identify, music. Credits thanks etc.
7. Refine. Text, music, etc.
8. Repeat 7 until done.
9. Upload to YouTube.
I watch each version of a clip at least 3 times in real time, so that's 30 minutes minimum, closer to 45 minutes, just watching. Make notes on what I need to change. First round of edits is usually 15-20 changes, last ones are one or two changes but still require the same 3 views before I feel comfortable. I know that a couple clips took 30-40 hours.
I've done the 5th revision of the April 12th clip, so review time alone for it is 3-4 hours (14-ish minute clip, viewed say 15-18 times). Actual work time on the clip is enough that the Missus is a bit frustrated with the time I spend editing clips.
I've done the 3rd revision of the May 2nd clip, still seems a bit coarse.

@carpediemracing thanks, that puts it into perspective. FWIW, syncing the power data is a bigger pain than it looks since its not as simple as just starting it when the whistle starts. If the power is off even a fraction of a second it doesn't look right. The best thing to do is to find a part of the ride where you go from coasting to a visible effort, sometimes that takes a lot of time.

So kinda jazzed that my weak on cycling cable package has the channel covering the TOC. Turned in on to hear that they had hired the village idiot to announce again. Less jazzed. Then said idiot claims a 50 KM/hr speed (31 MPH) for the break and two seconds later I'm looking at a graphic stating the break and field riding at 22/23 MPH.
Math hard.

Jens seems worse as an announcer really. I mean yeah he's Jens, pretty good at racing, but does that mean you're good at announcing? Not really.
Christian isn't much better.
Hey at least Paul speaks Swahili!
Also I'm pretty sure Phil is pronouncing "Lodi" wrong.

Lodi was my first Cat 3 race. I immediately regretted upgrading.

Lodi puts on a fun crit in June. Aside from that, I generally don't go there.
However, I did drive down there and caught the finish of the TOC and they put on a good show.
