I would think the Cat 4,5 racer would get local support as they don't race nationally. The Cat 3 racer that races Nationally gets regional support. If the sport is too expensive they can easily make it less expensive. Cat 4, 5 - only mass start bikes allowed - no TT bikes. Only medal rims (this is done in some places).

Last check all those sports occurred on bicycles so I'm not entirely sure how you're redefining cycling to exclude them. As to dilution of funds and focus, I'm sure the BMX and Cross dads say the same thing. Your sense of entitlement hurts my teeth. FFS mountain biking and cross are poised to set road up as a cross-training activity.

I don't know about MTB, it seems to have taken a bit of a dive out here recently. Cross we all know about, same with fondos. I think the sleeper is gravel. There's talk about it at USAC HQ, we shall see.

I wonder what those brake levers do. One brake lever would be good for dumping you on your face. Maybe the second one is for deploying the air bag?
(kudos to whoever photoshopped that, though)

For the sake of argument, and because I know something about it, breaststroke almost might as well be a different sport than the other strokes, at least as different as road and cross. And usa swimming has pool and open water, and those are far more different than they appear at first glance.
I have serious issues with how usac does development, but those issues mainly consist of not pulling in hs/middle school kids through already existing infrastructure.

It's about the capsule you're in. Mountain biking was HUGE in the early-mid 90's, then crashed hard. It may or may not be coming back among road racers who are looking for new competitive spheres *cough* but I'm not so sure that it's ready to make road racing a cross-training activity. But as it continues to be very difficult to organize a road race in many places, off-road racing might have an opportunity there... not that it's necessarily easy to get a cross race up and running, either, but not needing to close roads certainly helps.

In CT there's a minimum number of schools that need to participate in a sport for the sport to become a scholastic thing that gets some state money. I think that with CCAP busy recruiting high schools it's got to be over the cusp. I heard from someone that tried to do it before that it's 6 high schools for a sport to become state-supported. They have to have more than that. There's the "schools interested in it enough to sign up in some formal way" and "schools with a team". I think the numbers are about 50-80 and 5-10 respectively, based on their Facebook posts. 160 or so schools in CT.

Have you all watched Kung Fury yet? You should watch Kung Fury. It might as well be alternatively named "I am the Internet and so Can You"

(New) car sales.
I want to sell cars, for real. I finally have some leeway (time/support) to see if I can actually do it. It's weird, I feel a bit embarrassed talking about the job because of all the stereotypes about it, but I'm really looking forward to starting work. I'm voluntarily giving up every Tues Night race and my Saturdays and I feel fine about it. I have to wear slacks, a tie, and maybe a jacket. I don't mind that, actually like it, but it's a culture change for me as I last wore business attire regularly in 2002-ish. I only have one suit set (interviews/weddings/funeral) so I need to buy some clothes. And yet I'm looking forward to starting. Nutty.
Figuring my drug test sample doesn't get tampered with, and Sudafed isn't on the list, I start June 17. They are good with me taking time off to go to Worlds in Sept (we're going for a week).
I'll keep going with the Aetna Nutmeg Spring Series, I just have to make it at least break even. I hope to cross-promote and all that.
Realistically I'm going to stop doing the extra event services work due to time constraints. I'll do the ones for this year but drop the more time consuming ones. That stuff is all profit, like the June 6 (Pie Ride) and June 14 (White Plains Crit) events will pay for about 1/4? of the shortfall of the Series, and one of the main reasons I don't want to start until June 17. Carpe Diem Racing will be significantly short for the year and the IRS doesn't like it when a business loses money all the time because then it becomes a hobby. I'll do two events not my own going forward - Tokeneke RR (because I can drive up in 30 minutes and I'm done when I leave the venue, no results or anything) and the club's Silk City Cross Race (close, lots of support from club, I do upload results though).
