That guy's a decent 2, he does Rockleigh a bunch. And I know you know the guy below him on the leaderboard. But this is a good example of why you can't take this stuff too seriously. There are at least 2 segments for that hill, and the one ygduf linked is a little garbagey, it looks like it starts a little before the road turns up for good, and it ends before the top. In fact if you click through to the actual rides you can see that most users hide that segment and prefer this one: https://www.strava.com/segments/1662879. The same guy has the KOM but only by 30 seconds, not 1:20.

^^ that's your local strava knowledge there.

other things to watch out for - bad gps matches that start late or end early, iphone as the recording device, car trips.

One of my favorites ... NCC crit lap, original segment was recorded on a phone by somebody walking around the outside of it (from the looks of it, drunk too). Because of all the wobbles, the lap appears longer than it really is, so the lap times are crazy fast.

I have heard (tall) tales told of a dude that sets a trainer up in a van and has someone drive up climbs while he puts out whatever power he's capable of. Allegedly runs a coaching business. It sounds like kubrik directed moon landing conspiracy stuff to me, but them rumors fly round.

I too have heard those rumors. He uses his Strava KOMs to advertise his coaching business.

Sounds like a good business strategy to me. I'd be surprised if there isn't at least one person somewhere doing that.

How did you think CDR does 28mph laps at 160 watts?

OK, I did some research, grilled the guy who told me the rumor, and I'm calling BS on it. Too bad, because it's a good story.

He's not anybody. I think the story is just made up. In the future I may consider researching such rumors prior to retelling them. Nah, too much effort.

I just realized Gran Fondos with timed climbs are Enduros for road bikes.

There's another commuter challenge being run by my work, except this one is for walkers and carpoolers as well. This one is bs because it seems like its just a raffle, although the Grand Prize is a weekend stay in Palm Springs or an Ashley Furniture set. In may they do a commuter challenge and the cyclist that commutes the most miles usually gets a grand. The guy that won did about 5 less miles a day than I do now

I had this exact conversation with an enduro guy yesterday! He said the difference is there are more broken bones in enduros, but I'm not so sure about that.

I would start commuting if they did that where I work. It would be between me and one other guy. Its about 15 miles one way for me

I don't commute now because of no shower..that and I would have to buy lights and more food

Who's on WKO 4?

I have to do a wipe on my system and can just reinstall parallels, windows, wko3. Or I can go full upgrade. I'm not champing at the but to do it though. I'm just looking for the easiest way back to Monday.

I've switched over, decided to finally bite the bullet.

I still hate the UI, can't find basic stuff, but slowly learning.

I figure it's worth it to a) not have to deal with a VM and b) syncing from the web so I don't have to actually plug in my Garmin anymore.

I have a demo version on my Macbook Air. As some like to emphasize, I'm a numbers guy, but even for me WKO4 is an overkill of data charts.

I pulled the data from CyclingAnalytics (which emails all the fit files) with no issues....other than it crashed the first time because I have no patience.

Nope, that's been all good so far.

I had it all (a few years of data) uploaded to traningpeaks.com, fwiw, so it was syncing from there and not from a local disk. But that should work too.
