I wound up going down that particular rabbit hole back in 2013. My doc proscribed axiron after a battery of tests determined I had low T, which were most likely caused by a combination of physical stress (riding 15 hours a week, working two jobs, and a case of the flu) plus psychological stress (my main job is pretty much high stress customer service, running an IT help desk). He called for the tests when I became so lethargic I couldn't get out of bed for a week.

Before agreeing to start taking the axiron, I jumped through all the hoops to get a TUE. Guess what, you can't get a TUE for T supplements, and I decided to just quit racing while I was on the stuff -- I want to be clear about this, I never competed during the short few months I was on it even though I held a license.

Now, here's an interesting tidbit I discovered while on the stuff. Excess testosterone can convert into estrogen in your body. That's why some juicers get boobs. Other side effects include excessive weight gain, and even more mood issues (PMS??). It will even create an interesting feedback loop in your body which exacerbates the situation.

I wound up spending nine months working with an endocrinologist to get everything straightened out.

Yeah, so screw big pharma and the low T myth.

Sure.. This was how the real estate bubble formed and destroyed the economy. I know a couple of guys that lost almost everything when they had to walk away from some very expensive condo mortgages they held for playing that particular game.

As are Campagnolo, and a strand can come out through the hood, go through the glove, and poke little holes in your hand.

So a tidbit of information I have picked up is that SRAM shifters specify that they need a 1.1mm shifter cable. Shimano uses a 1.2mm shifter cable. If you put a 1.2 cable in a SRAM shifter it will be

A: Really hard to get to thread through your shifter.
B: More likely to break because it has excess friction.

Make sure you use the right width cable.

unlikely to be the cause, but I had those exact symptoms when my cable was super gummed up with sports drink and sweat and road grime where it went under the bottom bracket. Shifting small to big I was pulling in cable tension and it worked fine. Big to small, the cable tension was released and the derailleur spring had to really work against the gummy bits.

I've always wondered if that old timey cable routing on top of the bottom bracket that was used back in the 70's wasn't really a cleaner approach because it blocked some of the road grime (especially for the ones that had housing stops and ran through cable housing for that curve.

Spent 7 hours at urgent care yesterday. Wife has a uterin fibroid that is causing constant pain. News could be worse, but the lack of a timetable for relief is rough as well. Not much sleep for anyone the past couple nights.

Back at work today. Pulled my clothes out of my backpack and I guess it's super-casual tuesday today.

I hope that your wife gets well soon @Ygduf.

Over here, I missed a solid week of training last week after experiencing some indigestion and nausea on Tuesday morning, that hasn't resolved yet. At first I thought that I had simply caught what was going around work, but now I'm thinking that I gave myself some mild food poisoning by eating the same chicken for four days in a row.

I finally scheduled a doctor's apt this morning, headed over in a couple hours. I've been a little low energy, with symptoms flaring mainly after I eat - I have a hard time digesting things.

Anyway, I feel a lot better today, not 100%, but better. I found myself in a better mood and really enjoying a song that I like on the radio - something that I couldn't say happened over the last week.

I'm apparently a corrosive sweater. My bike is less than a year old and the rear brake spring (5800) is rusted as is the rear skewer; white corrosion is showing where the brake cable housing comes out of the top tube (it's an Allez) and around some of the spoke holes on the Powertap hub. That's what I get for doing intervals in 100% humidity during the Louisiana summer. Suggestions on how to minimize this?

But it's DA 7800. I thought these things were solid.

Looks like I'll have to give it a once over in a few days. I'm slouching towards finishing up prep for my exam tomorrow. Oy. Maybe I'll take a study break and tinker.

They *are* solid, just not invincible. My 7800 rear shifter, bought used, is apparently toast. I'm going to replace it with the 6600 shifters I have on a bike I'm not using.

Before they prescribed T, what did doctors do when men complained of stress related fatigue? Was there a time when a doc prescribed taking a vacation or otherwise reducing stress level by lifestyle choice?

How old fashioned.

No idea how to minimize it; just that you have to stay on top of things. I've corroded a seat post into place and had all sorts of rear brake problems before I realized what was going on. Occasionally take out your seatpost and make sure it's properly greased or carbon assembly pasted. Clean off brake cables and occasionally shoot some WD-40 up in there.
