@shovelhd Sorry to hear about your eye. I was hopeful that the surgery would fix the problem for all activities, including racing. You have a great attitude. You are welcome anytime to ride with me tooling around at whatever pace we chose and then eating pizza and drinking beer. Keep up the good work as a race official and promoter. We need good ones.

My wife got me a pair of Gap jeans a few months ago that actually fit really well. I think they are basic straight leg. It did take a couple wearings to get them to loosen up in the crotch though. That was a bit uncomfortable.
That said, the front pockets are nearly useless for carrying keys or phone. It's almost made consider getting a bag that I put all that stuff in. Almost.

i get why running against traffic is safer...for them. however, as a cyclist i feel like this exposes *me* to additional risk. in order to pass, i have to swing out into traffic. sure, i look over my shoulder, but there's additional risk. i live in a rural area so traffic isn't too big a concern, but i still wonder about what is right.
i feel like in this scenario the runner should step off the road. it allows the cyclist, moving with traffic, to continue unimpeded and does not put them at additional risk. for the runner, it's a minimal impact. also, it goes along with my policy of not getting in the way of stuff that is bigger/moving faster than you.

Runners are pedestrians. In many states, the law requires that they use sidewalks when provided, and when no sidewalks are provided, they are to walk/run on the far edge of the road and must move off the road when a vehicle is oncoming. Runners also should run against traffic to improve their safety. (This is taught to children, but many people get the concept confused and will actually run with traffic and bike against traffic, or run and bike against traffic.)
Now, just because that is what the laws often state does not mean people will follow them or that runners will cede their ground to oncoming vehicles, especially bicycles, and step out of the way.

Anyone else have issues with jeans squishing the dangle?
The options are:
buy jeans that fit properly around the waist but are mega tight around the thighs, which has...implications for a man's chandelier, in addition to having mostly unusable pockets (why the **** do women put up with the unusable pockets thing?!)
buy jeans that are mega large around the waist that you have to fold over under the belt, but are pretty okay around the upper leg.
Have any of you found a decent pair of jeans for this sort of thing? I'm eagerly anticipating Keirin Cut Jeans going on sale...but it'd be great if there was something out there already.
Like, this is sort of a painful problem. Charlie don't surf with hipster skinny jeans, TKP wears Express straight leg boot cut. I just want something that fits well and doesn't look like I'm wearing a denim hefty bag.

Nordstrom Rack usually has some for that $30 kind of money. The factory store near here has them for ~$50 with a killer selection.

just did a google earth street view of that stretch of road and it puts cyclists in a pretty compromised position by having to cross two lanes traffic to get into a bike lane next to the median.

Sad ... Also, chp's comment isn't too helpful again (similar blaming of Allen during that accident). The cyclist crossed the #1 and 2 lanes to remain in the bike path. Not for "unknown reasons".

For night riding I like the LED stick kind of thing. Illuminates you, sort of, and makes it clear where the bike is, versus a bright blinking thing that you have no idea if it's 200 yards away or 30 yards away. This is the Down Low Glow - I happen to have one but I haven't used it (aka haven't ridden at night) in a few years. I think there are LED type things which have a similar effect.
The headlight is a weak old fashioned one but I bought (and never rode with) some nutty 1200 lumen light. Or 2400, I dunno. Now it's my super bright flashlight for looking for things.

Rant warning, well sort of
At my indoor soccer game tonight, this "older" dude tried to pick a fight with me. I say older only because he was graying quite a bit, but I digress. Dude was maybe 5'5"-5'6" at most, constantly fouling guys on my team and getting peoples faces. Ref eventually red carded him; a younger me would probably have struck him in frustration. Honestly, though crossed my mind but walked away and kept my cool. League I play in tends to have over aggressive dudes, IMO most of the agressors seem to have a napolean complex. It's usually the shorter and lankier dudes who tend to be aggressive from my experience.
Cycling wise, rode the rollers with my fixed gear. Almost fell off watching the Bayern game. I should probably not watch soccer while on the rollers

American Eagle has a new athletic cut if you have big thighs. They also have a bunch of different fits in-between skinny and relaxed depending on your build. I like their new active and extreme flex jeans. They're basically made from the same material as jeggings so you have to be OK with that. But they stretch so you can size down and wear slimmer jeans without cutting off the blood supply to your lower extremities. And on a side note, they're also awesome for running errands on a bike. I have news for all the dad jean wearing guys out there. Boot cut jeans went out of style like 10 years ago. Don't shoot the messenger...
