We get category fields and age group fields, no overlap. One RR this year had a 40+ cat 4 field and NYC bike racer forum people were mocking it as (IIRC) the "age 43-47 Scorpio cat 4s with Iowa birth certificate" field.

I'm not racing exclusively masters. Dunno why @mattm is so scared. There's just a set of road races that are out of my reach in the p12s (for duration, mainly) that I can again compete-to-win in the 35s.

I'd be at Dunnigan if I wasn't so disabled... and next year I might try more hilly RRs to somehow "teach myself" how to climb, so that I can maybe-somehow survive the p/1 Cascade field.

Definitely still enjoying this year (just registered for Master's Nats!!) but also looking forward to and also nervous about next season!
All my races will be 1/2s (or Masters) and I hope I don't have a Sophomore slump! On the up side, at least I'll go into next season with some sort of game plan as opposed to this year when I pinned on a number in January and decided to try bike racing! :-)

seriously. i could envision a couple scenarios where you'd have a shot at the win.
VERY fun to race against talent from all over. you already ride with some of these names, but people from other parts of the country come out of the woodwork. it's also totally wide-open racing and minimal team tactics (everyone wants to win).
it's normal to have a field of 50 or 100 riders where, realistically, 10 have a shot at winning...regardless of level. at nationals, there are WAY many more riders who have a scenario that could unfold where they cross the line first. it's cool in that regard.

I was having a good season with a win and several podiums but then crashed out in late June. The lingering injury is my broken finger which is still sore and weak. I decided a few weeks ago to stop formal structured training and bail on the rest of the season. I have started my officiating career and I have been enjoying that. My goal is to upgrade to a CatB official so I can work the national races.
Next year, and every year beyond that, is up in the air. I don't know what I want to do yet. Part of me wants to hang it up and just ride, and the other part of me wants to focus on M50+ and the NEMCA M55+ championship. If I decide to race there will be changes. I'm tired of getting busted up by idiots.

Realistically New Britain is about the only place in the area, plus I'm 35 minutes from New Britain (and an hour and 35 minutes, without a trailer, from Bethel). I'm working on securing the venue now. If it happens I'll look to hold races on all March/April Sundays minus Easter Sunday.
If it doesn't happen then I need to recon a course that someone (someone who does surveying) suggested as a possible site. It's only slightly closer to Bethel than New Britain but I have no idea what it looks like from the pavement, just Google maps and stuff.

let's also both not forget that I'm not like, full-time master's only next year, and that this is the same @mattm who quit racing 2/3s to help me the second he had his points for c1.

however it's true that I would've stayed a two like a month longer had i not been hurt!! upgrading early was a consolation prize.

2015 season has been in my sights ever since November 2013. After being away from any racing in 7+ years there was no realistic expectations to be racing in 2014. At this point in time between life's demand of work, school and a couple other major challenges, just being able to consistently train is a major plus. Also equipment is being completely replaced so that is also a systematic plan.

I've had no results to speak of this year. Coming back from an injury that wiped out all of 2013, plus a couple of lingering issues in 2014 made this year not so great. I guess I'm looking forward to 2015.
