I can't believe Contador broke his leg a month ago and is one of the best GC riders there so far. He's either on some serious juice or he didn't really break his leg.

i like the vuelta and am watching. there are 7 more mtn finishes to go (i think) and all the big climbing is yet to come. i think contadors time off the bike will catch up with him, maybe as soon as over the weekend, and quintana riding into 3rd week form will win. i would bet against quintana ever winning the tour, but the climbier giro and vueltas are what he's made for.

sidenote - watching froome ride is grotesque. he dispels all the myths about needing souplesse to make a bike go fast.

I can't seem to find it on the TV, so I've been watching the steephill recaps after the race. Entertaining so far.

Did Hesjedal's bike get run over? The 'ast thing I read wasn't too clear.

    From cyclingtips:
The impact wasn’t too severe and he might have been able to return to the break, but his [R.H.'s] back wheel was unfortunately ran over by a motorbike, forcing him to wait for a spare.

Yeah I broke down and went for the DishWorld streaming package that includes Universal Sports just for this reason.

Not optimal, since they don't natively support AirPlay, and the video doesn't play full screen so even if you mirror it you end up with a boxed picture on the TV.

But they have a bundle deal with Roku so you can get one free or half off, hoping that way I can watch it in full glory!

One thing that's nice about their service is that you can watch shows that were on earlier, up to 8 days ago. So even though you can't record stuff, you can watch stages that you missed.

And fwiw they have a two or three-day promo deal, you can try it out w/out buying.

Sounds complex...I think I'll just keep streaming via steephill to the TV.

Yes the clown driving the cam era bike was following too closely and ran over the wheel of his bike. This was bound to happen; they are taking out the riders' line to get their shot. I was pleased to see the barricades in this stage (7) are a different type which angle away from the riders' side keeping fans' arms away and the base don't protrude into the riders' line. That one with the foot high right angle really clobbered the rider in the previous race.

    this.

2 weeks before the Vuelta he was saying that he didn't know when he was going to be allowed to train/ride. I was like yep this guy is done for.

Fast forward to this week and he's crushing it.

not sure if juice or amazing talent or BS broken leg story.

What kind of break was it though?

There's a huge difference between a compound fracture and a hairline fracture.. I assume Alberto's was more towards the hairline part of the spectrum?

After all he rode on it for like 10k after breaking it..

My guess for GC is Quintanna, but we'll see.

Also, I LOVE seeing Bouhanni take stages, guy is a monster! Degenkolb is ok, but just seems dorky - which is meaningless, I know - Nacer just seems way cooler.

They say Bouhanni rides unsafe/takes too many risks, but that's kind of what you have to do to win grand tour stages.

Also love that he came in DFL on yesterday's climb stage, something like 27 mins back.

Why not go around Degenkold the other day instead of waving his arms? (fwiw, I tried to shoot a gap of similar size once and crashed/wrecked my shoulder).

I'm more of a Degenkold fan than a fan of Bouhanni. Deg can be a super lead out for Kittel and still win outright. Also, I'm not sure how many more times we need to hear that Bouhanni was a professional fighter.

In the Tour of Something (Turkey?) he squeezed a similar space and won, so doesn't seem to have problems taking risks - I can only assume it was too small for even him.

can't watch when the camera is on him

it's as though they found some guy in a spinning class that put out huge numbers and figured; let's sign him to ride in 200 rider pelotons

part of watching any sport is the beauty of technique in that sport,, ever see Arnie hit a golf ball? whatev's

True dat. His swing was terrible. But when he hitched up his pants your expectation of a miracle shot went way up. The man knew how to win.

Way back when (1960's and 1970's) I played that silly game. Tom Weiskoff (did I spell that right?) had a picture perfect swing. Tom was a very good golfer, but nothing like Palmer when it came to winning.

Then there was that chubby kid from Ohio in the 1960's... Pretty much the Eddie Merckx equivalent when talking about the GOAT of golf and bike racing.

    woooo bouhanni.

fun stage to watch, looked painful!

also nice little "move" by nacer in the final meters when Matthews started to come around.. classic sprinter style, pulling moves he would complain about!

Bouhanni...complaining about Degenkolb's line deviation and then makes that move. C'mon man. I reckon he's gonna be a super diva for the sprint scene.

Stage 9. Despite his TDF injury, Bertie's got some chops in this race. He's fun to watch when he attacks on a climb. J-Rod also makes the uphill finishes interesting. The GC is still wide open.
And I did it all clean.

Seems like all sprinters do bs like that at some point or another.. lord knows cav has complained about stunts he's pulled himself.

Don't think Matthews even put in a formal complaint, he's probably thinking "what goes around comes around"..
