Emotions clearly got the better of the 31-year-old and, according to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, it stemmed from the news that he had failed to make LottoNL-Jumbo’s Vuelta a Espana squad. The newspaper says that Boom was told on Thursday night that his chances of making the Spanish Grand Tour line-up were almost nil. Boom, a Tour de France stage winner, has not raced a Grand Tour since the 2015 Grand Boucle. While Boom made no mention of gesture he made on the line, he said afterwards that the it had been a tough season where things didn’t go to plan.

“It indeed brings a lot of joy,” said Boom. “The spring classics didn’t go as well as expected. Afterwards, I was close to the Dutch title. I worked hard to reach this level, and it’s great that I could achieve this. I always want to win. Therefore, it’s beautiful I can end a difficult period with many doubts in this way. Finally, I have been able to deliver my team a win and that’s great.”
Def pissed at manager. Manager def good at motivating him. If nothing else came of this it reminded me of Cav's much heavier fine for a similar gesture.

Colorado Classic sprint today - the Italian guy was just mad he lost, winner rightly closed the door (rather, didn't let it open)! That's sprinting, 100%.

Also this race seems way crappier than it used to be - it's like watching Cascade on TV or something. 95 guys, wtf? I mean I'm glad they have it, I'm glad it's on TV, but still. It seems to be missing something (probably more ProTour teams).

FWIW, they had more WT teams than Utah.

Did my eyes deceive me, or was BMC running aluminum wheels on at least one stage? Maybe C24s?

I love watching Contador do his thing man. It's a shame he had that stomach bug that was going around inside team Trek!

loved yesterday’s stage - two sprinters dropping the breakaway on the climb and battling for the win!

(wasn’t much of a battle at the end, but still)

Love that they're showing the whole race today - km0/establishing of the break is usually the best part!

If you tune in to the race in the middle, the break is smoothly taking turns and the peloton is taking a piss. But in the beginning it looks more like what an amateur race is pretty much the whole time; a scramble to get the break, reshuffling, trying again.

Tour of Britain stage 2 - Boassen Hagen relegated for deviating in the sprint! I say he deserved that, as much as I like his underdog-ness.

I'll wait for the Cycling Weekly piece to see if they caption the requisite finish line photo with arms raised, "Token career ending victory."

Amerikaan Neilson Powless tekent voor LottoNL-Jumbo | WielerFlits

Interesting development. Nielson to Lotto Jumbo. Took advantage of the opening of his contract from c'dale. Glad to see another American overseas as long as he can keep his mind in the right place! Wish I was still in Seattle to ask his coach about the story behind this move.

The article said he's coming from Axeon, didn't mention Cannondale?

I 100% remember reading a transfer to c'dale for him. Now I can't find anything but rumors. Wow.. Oh well, still an exciting move.

Good for Neilson; Jumbo seems like a way better team than Cannondale.

As for the final stage of the Vuelta: how about Froome battling for the green jersey?? What's probably annoying to QuickStep about that is they can't really push the Red Jersey aside, since whoever has it on is made of glass and must be respected. Still, I enjoyed the battle (which Froome won by joining in the field sprint for 11th).

Also, since when does a Red/Yellow/Pink jersey wearer risk losing everything by going argy-bargy with the sprinters in the final stage? Since never, I believe. Give Froome some credit for that one.

Agreed re: Powless. Seems Cannondale is where you go if you're on your way out of racing or just not quite good enough to land elsewhere.

On Froome, eh ... I guess it's fair game. Curious if he'd be as well received mixing into sprints at the Tour with the big big sprinters.

that was... unfortunate

On the plus side, he'll finally have road-rash that allows him to sleep on his back and sides?

I saw the leg shoot straight out and expected very much worse than a gruesome slide on damp pavement. He was sitting decent on GC before pulling out due to this crash.

After digesting that for a few days and setting up similar now, how did that happen?

My setup has 4 steel bolts, and I'd find that kinda break very strange. I wonder if there we some alloy or weak parts. I expect if the mechanic left things loose it would have been noticed.
I see he hit the speed bump. Then the bars break down, so the rear two bolts both broke.
Those just snapped. Almost like sabotage.

Still I wonder if a re-design is in the works.

Factor uses a "mono-riser" One airfoil that branches into the area for the two cups. I imaigne the puts a bit more strain on the bars. Still, it shouldn't happen. There's a thread over on slowtwitch that goes into discussing this.
