rain. it was really slick apparently and these dudes were trying to bomb a twisty descent. Simon Gerrans crashed out and DNF'd and other young guy from BMC crashed and broke a vertebrae. other crashes with less serious outcomes. very dicey.

yeah, i am. they really ought to credit them with the same time... 300meters out when it happened, no way anyone is going to catch up to a sprint train in that situation. it makes you think if the jury is just trying to stiff (non-Italian) racers

And it's not like Contador is really threatened by this. He's crushing Aru as it is, and I'm sure will crush him in the TT tomorrow.

What a great race. So did Dombrowski blow it by having a chat with Busche, or did that crash just take too much out of him?

Crash and perhaps the attack. Busche countered and it was game over. Makes you wonder if that what the move to make had Garmin wanted to win. Dombrowski wasn't going to outsprint most, and getting him in a break with others doesn't seem as prudent as getting Howes away...

I really don't understand C-G sometimes. I really think some of the guys on that team have much more legs than sense. Like Ryder Hesjedal riding at the back of the field and losing 4min when Astana punches it on a descent. Or Talansky and Howes letting, arguably, the least experienced and slowest (in a finish) of the three of them go up the road with Busche. Did they really think that there was any chance in hell that Busche would NOT work Dombrowski over?
When Kiel Reijnen flatted, they had that race sewn up. Drive the pace for Howes, prevent Reijnen from getting back on, blow away old man Horner in the sprint. Completely mystified as to how they botched that one.

Nationals was such an incredible race. I'm a new englander at heart, but definitely have a soft spot for MABRA due to my time spent living/racing down there so it was incredible to see joe d come oh so close. Seeing kyle murphy up there was wild too. Probably one of the best road races I've watched in a while.
Haven't really been keeping up with the giro, but lol @ ryder *****ing because saxo chases down his break aways.

Every Cat3 or better should go to Nationals at least once in their career. It's the most intense racing I've ever done.

yep. I posted on here somewhere said in about 2008 that eventually Contador's name would be mentioned with the same reverence as Coppi, Merckx, Hinault, et al. He's the best GT racer I've ever watched. The Bassos, Evans, Schlecks, and Wiggins come and go, but Contador remains.

Today's stage was obviously less exciting, but sprint finishes are always a blast to watch. Love rewinding the last 500m or so and watching all the random argy-bargy **** that goes on.
