i'm a bit more sympathetic. He was hanging on not b/c he got dropped, but due to a crash. Furthermore, the course did its work in penalizing Nibali as his chase efforts probably cost him 45 seconds with respect to the other contenders
otoh, that was quite blatant... i'd have assessed 5 min penalty on top of his losses and called it even

dq was the correct call. that was ridiculous. still, not as ridiculous as that opening ttt course. our local association wouldnt have thought that a suitable course for a race, can't even begin to image what the race committee was thinking.
