out walking the earth
Can you explain that? Only Cat 1s can't upgrade.
I stated it was not an indicator outside of a closed group of racers that race the same races. So for masters and primarily the juniors it is not a reflection of ability at all. And, while I think it is a rule that should be done away with, we use it for call-ups as because we can by virtue of where we live.

USAC has deemed that my CAT1 license from OR (OBRA) is not sufficient for an upgrade from 2->1 in USAC.
I'm not surprised, but kind of disappointed. Not a huge deal for someone who isn't going to race on the road more than a handful of times a year, and won't do any NRC races, but still... lame.
I suppose it's time to start knocking out some local crits. I'm hoping being the anonymous dude that no one knows will prevent them from chasing breaks down out of spite.

I haven't used that symbol since I disproved the existence of god in my senior thesis.

Kudos to GC for the proper use of QED.
Two years ago I got taken out by a Polish national champion. He was at the front end of the race but in way over his head with his ability to handle the one technical turn on the course and the speeds going through the corners. He kept opening up gaps. When I finally had a chance to get around him on the right, riders were passing him on the left at the same time. He swerves hard right into me and hits the brakes. There's a huge tree on my right so I held my line, we hook bars, ride uncontrollably onto the grass, and crash. Prior success doesn't always indicate current skill.

But there is a little satisfaction with standing on the podium beside a kid the same age as your son

2nd place in our last two Tuesday Night A races. I was able to get some big separation on shorts climbs in both races, but I couldn't close the deal. Knowing you're the strongest in a race is cold comfort when you don't win...

Not sure yet. Trying to get in as many as possible but you know some of my home issues which prevent me from getting to some of the stuff I want to get to. Just playing by ear on a lot of it. WOuld like to get to the USA Crit Series finals for sure and may take a run at Masters Nationals in Ogden but I'm just figuring it out as I go.

whiteface hill climb
decided to throw caution to the wind and chase a group instead of a power number. Rode with the lead group for a little less than a mile, and then wisely sat up out of it. Looked at the guy next to me and said 'too rich fro my blood.' Rode with the next group on the road which helped. Caught my perceived age group winner around mile 5 and we dropped him right away. I though I was a shoe in for a win or at least a podium at that point. Hung with the group until a flat section 1.5 from the top and couldn't do it any longer. Rode in solo. I shaved a minute or more off my PR. Unfortunately there was a guy in my group in the lead group, and one of the guys in my age group was in my group (doh). I ended up third, which for a sprinter is kinda cool. Can I be a rouleur now?
