He held them off, but I didn't have a good jump, and was on the wrong side in the cross wind. Still accelerating at the line at around 37/38 mph but dropped way back and got 17th of around 50.

Sprayed watts all over the place again, but did it in the break tonight. Set power records for essentially every duration dominated by aerobic fitness under 90 minutes.

40 second PR in last nights 14.5 mile TT..

I'm happy with that. 35:36 was my official time (I had a few seconds faster on my garmin)

Wait, you set a forty second pr in a tt? Or forty minute pr? Minutes makes a lot more sense.

Last rock of the year for me. Saw tkp and gc. Bunch of hard men including at least a couple of champ system pros. I ended up a very cross eyed fifth.

Oh man was Rockleigh a fun course, and the crowd that showed up kept it really dynamic. Good to see you out there.

Rockleigh. Lots of fast guys. A nice smooth strong race though. The back stretch on the last lap was a real scrum, packed elbow to elbow at 32 mph. Moving up hard the last time through turn 3, I clipped a pedal hard enough to destroy it. Sprinted anyway but the game was lost, finished 18th. I need to stop clipping pedals, because one day I will finally crash.

Fun racing with a couple of teammates, TKP, and gsteinb. Great job by @gsteinb to place in the stacked-est field I've seen yet at the Rock.

I was just window shopping pedals. I use Looks but my teammates all swear by Shimanos, maybe I will switch. Is there any difference in pedal strikeability? I can't afford to change cranks though.

I mean, I strike pedals hard in races pretty often, but I feel like it has to be user error. It's always when I'm near the limit so I assume I'm just too focused on getting through the corner fast and not paying attention to avoiding grounding out the pedal when heeled way over.

I've got a pair of older style shimano pedals you can try out if you'd like. Look like these: Amazon.com : Shimano Gerolsteiner PD-R540 Clipless Road Pedal -Lt Blue : Bike Pedals : Sports & Outdoors

I only ever hit my pedal trying to get out of a corner too soon.

getting shorter cranks to avoid clipping pedals is silly. more like ridiculous.

different pedals maybe; speedplays are nice in the clearance dept.

anyway just coast. no way that extra pedal stroke makes a difference.

Which for me is when I am attacking through a corner. There is no such thing as too soon in that instance.

Speed plays trade pedal clearance for shoe clearance. I've hit my shoe a bunch of times but struck the pedal body hard once, on a windy day at Ninigret, through a turn that has uneven pavement.

No matter the circumstances though a pedal strike is by definition user error.

Totally agree. I was a little ragged in the last couple of laps and I had promised my teammate a leadout so I was killing myself to move up too fast and really too late.

BTW I appreciated the boost on the home stretch with 10 or so to go... I didn't look back but I assumed it was my teammate pushing me onto the wheel in front of me, he says it wasn't, so it was probably you.

Ive had guys do that for me in early season races (usually they are sitting on the back warming up for the A race) and it has completely saved my race. Ive never seen who did it so I've never been able to thank them

Hi, I'm going to have this done and your experience with it could help re: my riding/racing plans. Don't have enough posts to send you a PM, if you're willing could you PM me for a few questions? Thanks,

Been a little since I posted and have done a lot of racing. I'll keep it short and to the point.

Nittany Stage Race Cat 3: 3rd Overall
Probably one of the hardest road races I've ever done. 3x22mile loops with a 6 mile climb at 6-7%. We started with 45 and by top of the climb I was in the front group of 8. No one ever caught us. I hung tough up the climb the last time, practically seeing things by the top I had gone so.deep to keep contact with the 3 ahead. I ended up 4th. Then took 4th in TT and 7th in Crit to finish 3rd overall. Couldn't believe I climbed as well as I did because I'm more a TT guy and have never done a climb like that.

Tour de Millersburg Cat 3: 4th Overall
This was a point style GC which does not favor us TT guys as much. I was 2nd in TT and 6th in Crit and was sitting 2nd overall going into road race, but 1st thru 4th were only separated by 5 points. I hesitated in the road race coming I to the finish instead of going for the late attack when I had the momentum. I don't have a great sprint and it is short to the line after last turn. Ended up 10th and finished 4th in GC.

It's been a long season and pretty successful. For the most part I'm finished. I may decide to do the Mayor's Cup in Boston but still undecided. After these past two stage races I have now collected 50 upgrade points, so I've accomplished my goal of reaching Cat 2 by end of year. Each goal I had set at the beginning of the year I have accomplished so pretty happy with that! Now to figure out training plan for next year
