It'll be interesting to see how our local hot shot goes at the worlds. I could still beat him when he was 14, but not a chance in the last couple of years.

Something that USAC really misses the opportunity on is making the National RR - and other selection courses like the Worlds course. The National RR and Worlds RR courses are pretty far apart in type and terrain. The TT courses even more drastic a difference. Nats was 5,000f flat straight. Worlds is many turn sea level. Truckee was/is a beautiful venue for the Nationals, but with hosting Worlds in Richmond, if they had Nationals in Richmond that would have helped USA a lot.

Shovelhd that is a very kind offer, thank you. I have a B bike to ride.
Danbury Audi guy washed out on turn 4, I was on his wheel. We were going very fast. Half the field piled up. I think one or two guys were ambulanced away. GMT managed to squeak past.
So much high speed bumping in the race. So many choke points in the downtown course. It was really awesome right up until that sudden stop.

did the "vermont overland grand prix" today which is basically a 55 mile, 6000+ ft of elevation race over pavement, dirt, gravel, and "class 4" (aka ATV trails) roads in vt. really really fun...except for the part where I took a corner too fast and tumbled into the woods, which was just terrifying. kind of disappointed with how my fitness felt though, to be totally honest. i think i was a little tired heading into it, which isn't at all surprising. cracked really hard on a long climb at mile 40ish and everything past that was just survival. overall a fun day though. saw @thekillerpenguin's teammate but he dropped me and proceeded to pedal fast.

Also, this race was one of best advertisements for road disc brakes I have ever seen. I was not comfortable with my rim brakes at all.

Who is that?

Geez, I just had a look at the course. Very technical and cobbles too. Interesting.

San Ardo Road Race yesterday, cat 3. Back of pack.
Nice temps, slight wind (5 mph or so), 3 laps - they said it was 63 miles but it was almost 70.
Whistle blew and I attacked. One strong TT guy with me who had 4 teammates in the race. He said this wasn't the plan but seemed intent on working hard. It was so early the field gave us a minute within 5 miles, but I knew we needed a couple more guys to make it the whole race. I took pulls at a pace I thought I could hold for the race - no need to blow myself up if no one wanted to bridge up. Field upon us at mile 17 in the slight headwind. One guy bridged just before the catch, and I gave it another good effort in hopes the 3 of us could do better but nope.
Came through for lap 2. Guys trying to get away in the tailwind, I just surfed wheeld near the front and kept an eye on things. A large group got separation, and it looked like the teams were gonna let them go so I jumped across before it was too late. But there were too many solo riders that couldn't let such a large group go and we were caught before we could get organized. We let a group of 4 get a decent gap, Sunpower (the team of 5) wasn't in it so I waited and kept an eye on them. The guy I was otf with earlier makes a bridge effort so I chase after him. The field chases both of us and another Sunpower guy counters and makes the bridge. They stay away for a while, I go to bridge, field chases and lines up behind me, I pull off, Joe pulls through and hammers, a few minutes later we catch them. I sat in to recover for a while.
Lap 3, sitting at the back chilling in the tailwind first half. No one was getting away yet. Coming up the the half lap point, I move up. Pretty fatigued from too-early efforts. One guy off the front looking strong. I go to bridge. I'm in no mans land for what seems like forever. If only I hadn't used up all my energy earlier. I get close, but can't close the deal, start losing ground, get caught. Rest up a few, and try again. Roll off casually when everyone is chilling out. I don't last as long this time. A few miles to go, gonna catch the solo rider and gonna be a field sprint. Short hill, underpass, left, short hill finish. I got a good position, fought to keep it, and the attacks go on the first hill. Way too long for a very fatigued me, and finally I blow up at the left turn to the final sprint. Roll in near the back.

To be clear, there are maybe 5 miles of pavement in this entire race. Mikey says he was disappointed, but I have to say he kicked my ass pretty badly on this thing. I had the Wrong Gearing, like, seriously wrong. 38x25 wasn't even remotely adequate. I still wouldn't have done great, lack of base means I really die on hard rides over an hour or hour and a half or so, but I might have had a little something left. Super fun for all that. Though I really thought Mikey was done for when we came into that sharp, gravel right-hander at the speed of fear. That was a miscalculation. In general, there were some scary descents in this race. I would consider myself an above-average bike handler, at least for a roadie, and I was pretty frightened at times. Partly because my lower back and legs were fried from grinding too high a gear, which made lifting myself out of the saddle (necessary for good control on these surfaces) extremely difficult to do for long periods of time. Still, A+ will do again. And do better.
Also, this race was one of best advertisements for road disc brakes I have ever seen. I was not comfortable with my rim brakes at all.

University Road Race, Cat 4/5
2.6 mile laps, 400 ft per lap. Up, down, up down, up down. Crazy strong field. Got dropped on lap two averaging 5.3 watts/kg for 5 minutes up the climb. Pulled after lap 4.
I set 5 minute and 30 minute power PRs so I got that going for me I guess...
