I had a heavy hardtail too, so you can only do sooo much before it gets crazy. It was a 2002 Fuji Thrill, was like 32-33lbs My current hardtail is lighter then my roadie If and when you do get a light weight MTB, you will be AMAZED on the speed and acceleration on both flat land and short climbs.
