How many active members on your site?
Large avatars are like big signatures. Annoying and overplayed. If you want a site with great pics...cool. But if content is the name of the game you need a balance between the useless, the white space and the content. For my liking, Joe has it played out well. Big sigs, especially with freaking ugly pics and flashing mods, and big avatars, automatically make me close the browser and leave. Its right on par with black backgrounds. The early days of the web, and advanced days of ansi coding in bbs's, was sickening enough. Like the 80's, I was happy to see it go
