A few years ago I made some home-made studded tires and took my mtn bike out to the frozen parts of Utah Lake. Nothing quite like the first turn at 20mph on pure ice.

I wasn't able to do the ride in to work, I was really bummed. I got everything ready, but my laptop/bag didn't fit in my basket. My backpack is really heavy and it wouldn't have been fun riding 15 miles through the snow with it on my back. I was a little worried about damaging it in a crash with it on my back too.
