The only difference between the two types of rim is the machining - it'll fit and work just as well with either. As far as the durability of a hub, it depends on the make and model. Find out who manufactured it and the model and hit up the search function. I haven't seen many negative reviews on here, other than prices and comparisons (high-end versus low-end, obvious quality differences). High and low flange are discussed here and probably at Sheldon Brown's site (
http://sheldonbrown.com), just search around. Sheldon's site turns up results for 'flange' (discussing why high flanges have been used)
here, while BF turns up ...a lot of nothing, kinda.
