Well, if it comes down to it, you could probably just buy a cheaper mountain bike with reliable tires, solid front fork and a few other things and tack on a BOB. Many people find that to fit their needs nicely. Then you avoid worrying about braze-ons and the like. Not sure if you've ever done it that way, but that's how some do it.
