thanks for all the replies folks. 700 wheel is a no go, i'm afraid. it must be 26" all the way. a friend of mine is having a nightmare trying to replace a rim in Oz right now, no-one stocks it in Perth.
i've love to buy a Thorn, but can i get this frame in Taiwan?

Possibly a Thorn? They are on the expensive side (built up) but the frames by themselves seem reasonable.
