I used to have no problem fitting two 6 packs of bottles in my simple jansport back pack, card board and everything. True, the zipper is tough to pull, but it all fits. I think I carried a loaf a bread in there once too.
If you're going for a case, simple answer is a rack. I dont' think I'd want a case of bottles or cans strapped to my back.
