I have 27 x 1 1/8s on Sun CR18 rims. I don't know the bead width, but you could look it up. Its definately wider than a typical road rim, and the tire fits just fine. If you have a similar rim or narrower, go for it.

Edit: CR18 bead width 17.5 mm. Works well with 27X1 1/8"
