Ah, but when you get in there, and work out those nerves, and your adrenaline hits, the wildman will take over! Don't sweat it: everyone's nervous. If you know your strengths, play to them, and, most of all, enjoy yourself.

I found for the past two years I'd train my ass off, anticipate the season with great relish, but then when it arrived, I'd destroy any enjoyment with excess anxiety. This year I'm really going to try to enjoy it as I go. One of the things that has really helped me enjoy this season so far has been developing a much larger goal. In the past, the most important race was merely the next one. Now I'm really just taking each race as preparation towards my goal event.
