Gain ratios: How useful of a number.
I've determined that my present gearing - 40/15 with 175mm cranks has the same gain ratio as 39/15 with 170mm cranks.
I presently spin about 90-95 rpms.
My leg length is 88cm, so 175mm is the right size for me, accoring to most fit formulas, and any bike in my size is going to come with 175mm cranks.
What would the biomechanical effect be with the smaller gearing and shorter cranks? I would think that I could spin faster. Would that be the case? How would my legs feel after a long ride?
Has anyone else made this change?
BTW, skid patches and pedal strike are non-issues for me.
