There's the infamous Buckhead Bellyache on Thursdays, and the Atlanta Cycling Wednesday night ride. We ride that route on Tuesdays as a women's ride, and it's a nice route with just a little traffic. Not sure if you were being literal about the rural 'guy', but if you're a gal, you can also do the Wednesday women's ride out of Peachtree Bikes. Surprisingly low traffic for an intown route, and just a couple of interesting climbs.
