It's not just "benefits", if you truly want to be a participant in the sport of bicycle racing, IMO, it's imperative that you be on a team. Who do you all think puts on all these races? It's the local teams, and it's done on our own time, often at the expense of results in the race put on by the host team, or at the expense of participating at all. Teams are how the sport survives.
