What I'm about to recommend is unusual, but it may be worth to time to think about/plan/try. Why not upgrade your drivetrain to the Holzfeller (as you stated), switch to strong fork (Manitou Black, any Fox or Marzocchi 5") and practice SMOOTHNESS before bolting on big components?

The advantage is if you learn to be smoother first and then move up in equipment, the big-bad-freeride components will be there to compliment you rather than suck up your mistakes...

Depending on what kinda XC ride you have, most likely it can take some abuse...it's just not gonna take all the abuse for long...

It's no doubt that the frame will eventually be the weak link...the bigger you get, the more metal you're gonna need...but if you ever notice, the best of the business can make anything happen on almost any bike...

Granted, Wade Simmons is not gonna take a Scalpel over a 30 foot gap, but I'm sure he could make one work over some much smaller stuff...
