I'm new to this, so any advice would be appreciated. I like the SRAM power links for their ease of removing and cleaning. Plus I heard the Shimano pins are expensive.

I have a Shimano 7 speed freewheel, double Biopace chain ring. Are there any compatibility issues here if I go for a SRAM? or do I need a shimano? Is biopace an issue? What about chain length and material? Anything else I should think about?
I highly recommend the Sram PC-58 for all 7-speed applications.

Biopace has nothing to do with it. http://sheldonbrown.com/biopace

You will need to cut the chain to size, as explained at http://sheldonbrown.com/derailer-adjustment

All chains are steel.
