I would stay away from the Trek Navigator. While it is a nice bike, there is really no other ave to take it. My wife has one and loves it, but she is never going to do more than a few miles at a time. If you are looking to go more than a few miles, read 10, I would get a hybrid or a moutain bike. I got my son a 2006 trek 3900 MTB for $280 at my LBS. It's a nice bike and will hold up well. Just get some slicks if you are going to road ride.

Or if you are looking into a road bike, options are endless
