Just wrapped my bars with Fizik Microtex as well.
My kit included the extra pieces. I couldn't find them initially, so I cut some. After wrapping the bars though, I noticed the pieces laying on the floor. I think they're in the middle of the roll. Either way, it works fine.
Follow the instructions above. Microtex isn't quite as easy to work with as say, Cinelli cork IMO, but the finished product is awesome. It feels really good on the road.
