Thanks. I went ahead and ordered the extreme ($48 delivered).
I expect to mount bags low in general but I like the idea of the top shelf for a small lightweight bag to carry some items I want to have handy.
I saw some comments earlier about the alighnment but I don't see that as a problem I cannot fix. Also, I am sure I can overcome any fit problem with frame and fenders. The only comment I saw elsewhere that might concern me was that some people apparently had problems with the rack hitting the bike frame when turned sharply. I suspect that problem was due to the rack mounted too close to the head tube.
Note....I saw one approach at http://www.phred.org/~alex/pictures/...d-triangle.jpg that added a small tab to the mid fork mounting point to allow a better connection to the mid fork mounting point..
